HELP! Failed Compression Test
Well my car died on me the other day!
I was driving, and suddenly.....the engine power dropped power about 75%.
It stayed on but barely.
Long story short.....I took it to Mazda.
The front Rotor failed compression.
They said.....rebuild.....or buy new engine.....or buy rebuilt...or buy used.
500,000 YEN - 700,000 YEN!!! WOW
I am leaving Japan in 3 Months (June2011)
ANy ideals or suggestions??
I thought about junking it and taking parts off of it.
I also thought about doing the rebuild myself.
I want to be able to sell it, and make a little money back.
Anybody know some good and fair priced shops near Yokota Base (Fussa, Tokyo) area??
I need help...badly!

Yeah but the question is..............how much and where?
Military people dont like to spend a lot on a used car. So if I spend $5K for example.........I gotta sell the car around 10K just to be O....K.........
Most people here wanna buy a car under 2K

I also am looking for just the body and am in Saitama.
Or
If you do want to put a used engine in it I can get one for $2000 with good compression and take it down to Yokota for you. Maybe even help you with the swap if you need assistance.
Or if you want a mega engine I know of one with less than 3000km on it with some large sideporting work. Probably not good to use this unless you have a stand alone ecu and large turbo though heheh.
Feel free to pm me or respond here. I can take the engine down as soon as monday next week.

Hey dirtyred,
I picked up the car with no problems today. I did a compression test on the front and came with ZERO compression hahaha. I will open up the engine later and see what the damage is inside. All in all I am very happy with the car and hope to have it up and running in June.
Speak to you soon.

Nipponichi: If you happen to have a list of parts you have I would like to see what you have. I am debating rebuilding or just throwing in a used series 6 engine. Since the front rotor had literally 0 compression I am pretty doubtful that the front half of the engine will have many parts that can be reused in a rebuild and also think the turbos may have munched on some tasty apex seal chips...

well, i have pretty much have all the drive train.... front/rear subframes, mission, rear diff, doors all the interior....
then engine, however, does still run, but when i crunched the front end, it knocked off one of the oil coolers and i didn't know it... i had to get it off the highway before i got ran over by an oncoming truck and drove it to a gas station... pretty much ran all the oil out of it... i would highly reccomend opening it up to inspect the e-shaft and bearings... other then that, it should be good to go...
its a full bridgeport with 850 pri and 1300 secondaries... not exactally built for fuel economy, but then again, what rotary is.... the car was a 96, so it had the newer style "rats nest" solenoid block... no turbo, as i sold it already... the clutch is an OS giken twin with the push/pull conversion... i have greddy suspension... and i was told it was a large brake setup cause it had the factory 17 inch wheels... but i don't know how true that is...

Hated to let it go............but.........oh well............had to be done.
Maybe next trip to Japan get a 2002 Spirit R............and rebuild the engine as soon as I get it.........unless it was recently done.
Circuit...make sure you keep me posted on your progress.....I wanna see it rolling again.
