Hey Guys,

Went to euro-rotor today, just to look at some cars and because they could remove my flywheel for me.

Tention bolt that had come out turns out to have broken off inside. Can't replace it without taking the engine apart big disappointment. As far as I know the car wasn't leaking coolent through the hole, need to figure out what to do with it. Since I dont feel like rebuilding it just yet I'm thinking about plugging the hole and hoping the engine will run awhile without the tention bolt and then start to look for a new engine or look for an engine I can start rebuilding.

But I'm wondering whether that is really smart, or if I should just save up a little longer and get another engine right away.

Big bummer awell such is life... we go on, there is plenty of work to be done...

I dont have cash for a rebuild or new engine at this time seeing I still have to get new headers and new exhaust.

This engine will have to live somehow long enough to get the car running and everything. Then I can start getting another engine and just take this one as a lost cause for now.

Then again, look at the bright side, all the more reason to buy another donor car and rebuild its engine and street port it while I am at it

that sucks after putting in so many hours of work..... but one question, go to euro-rotor to get the flywheel off? just use a electrical or air impact gun... or rent one

 

Mireck, well it was a good excuse to go there. I went for more things though, wanted to know about some more stuff I needed to have. But in the end, considering I had to drive 3.5 hours in total, it does seem a bit overdone

I asked around for an impact gun with some friends around here who do things in cars, nobody had a 54 mil thingy.

Owh and the work is not for nothing, even if the engine will not live long. I bought this car knowing the engine could be worthless with 200.000 miles on it. All the other bits I am doing, will work out just as fine, and have been just as usefull, if I get another engine

 

3.5 Hour drive?
I drove 190 Km to Assen this weekend for the Japanese Car Festival in 1.5 hour... (departure at 6 Am - arrival at 7.30 Am)

I took a circuit driving-course (2.5 hour for 35 euro's, not expensive for driving and letting drive my 12A turbo)

but back to the topic, were you driving your Delorean? is that the reason it took 3.5 hours? (j/k)

Mireck to and from, it only takes a bit over 1.5 hours to get from Lisse to Eindhoven. Its rougly 175km so I'm not as close as you think

And I was driving my slow diesel ford!

 

Well, Mireck, there was no way I could be in Assen yesterday. The Mariah doesn't drive right now (still working on the engine transplant, remember) and I'd feel out of place with a 626!
I also had plenty of work here (the car, the house, the garden...)
Hope to be able to drive the car by next month. I'm making steady progress, so it'd be ok.

Bas: that really sucks, I guess you can just try and see how long the engine can live on. But are you sure it's tight? Like no leaks (internal???) or something?

 

re well I had it running plenty of times in the garden and drove it up and down to the garage for the APK and it never leaked.

But just to be sure I'm going to plug the hole. We'll just see how long the engine last, for now there is still plenty to be done before the car will even be running again, who knows what will happen. Friend of mine that i am working on the car with has gotten the rotary bug aswell and is thinking of getting a fix'er'up aswell, that opens up possibilities for jointly buying a parts car and such things.

That reminds me, any plans on that FC in pieces in your attick??

still a shame , there were lots of cars, race courses to attend and ....... to see, the ahum... wheather was perfect!

Put on the first coat of the top paint. It looks like they mixed in a little to little blue, but that could be just me....

Alex, its painted, and it does show, the paint is actually to thin to paint, it should be sprayed, but they dont allow me to spray at the garage because of all the other things there.

I am going to see if sanding it with fine paper will improve the look of it a bit more but I've almost used all the paint so have to be carefull

But generally I am happy with the result.

The color is actually Mazda J5, the original color of the car. Problem is that the fresh paint really shines, while the rest of the car doesn't and the paint shows much brighter then the rest. But it seems the tint is near what it should be. Since its only the engine bay I dont care to much, atleast all the rust and stuff is gone and i have a clean bay

 

so did it help with light sanding?

I know, it is a wonderful feeling to kill some rust, isn't it? I would like to dip my car in Fertan if I could - I am currently fixing rust inside the car, and it is everywhere! - It's like, if I look casually there is no rust, but when I begin to poke an look closer, big gaping holes appear!

But for every little part of car that I finish, it looks more and more like a real car, and less like something from the junkyard, so the tough and dirty work is rewarding too

 

Ariel I'm going to try the sanding tomorow, haven't had time for it yet, I really hope it will improve. I've put the second coat on last weekend and I have just about enough left to do some touchup work.

The finish right now is a wonderfull color but the brush stripes really show

On a happier note, I got my subframe, torsion bar and wishbones back from the powdercoating shop and they look marvelous! The wishbones color doesn't look to great though, its to much of a matt color, that was a bit of a let down, but I definatelly love powdercoating and all for 75 euro

Pics are hopefully comming tomorow when I am at the shop again

Photos make the paint look alot better then IRL though, I can't get the paintstriping off, if I sand it the only result I get is that I go through the coat anywhere there is an edge and the end result ends up looking very dull
