Hey guys,

Very sorry, I forgot to bring my camera to day 2 weeks ago I nearly went crazy trying to put the wishbones back on with the new bushings and it wouldn't fit. Last week I ended up before closed doors because the garage owner had to go to groningen all of a sudden and he forgot to tell his collegue to leave the door unlocked for me.

And this week my buddy suddenly had a pretty girl from USA visiting him so he didn't have time.

So here I was, all by myself, desided to take the shocks and wishbone off that we tried to put on before. By accident, I am one pair of hands short here, I drop the wish bone on the ground after disconnecting it from the shocks. And that showed me the solution

So took it all apart, greased up the wish bone, put the wheel hub on the ground to use as a base, and neatly and nicely pushed the wishbone into place (last time we tried my friend was holding it up attaching the front first), attached the rear first (but didn't tighten it), then front bolt in, then shocks, then tighten it all up, then steering rack, then wheels, and finally, after I don't know how many months, my baby is on 4 wheels again!!!!!!!!!

The only thing missing is the stabeliser bar, but damn I'm pleased with myself today! I really feel like I'm in the phase where I can build up the car again)

So missing shots on putting the stabaliser bar back in (including new bushings, put the clutch powerthingy back on, and starting putting the wirelooms back where they belong

Hopefully next week I can start taking some pics of the work we've done so far

Finally! This time I didn't forget my camera (actually I went back for it when I figured out I forgot it AGAIN)

Someone had been working with something around my car because there was a few milimeters of dust (looked like saw dust) on my car. So not to shiny at the moment, she needs a wash

nice work, seeing that makes me want to start with my Ro80... But the stupid Seven (get frustrated...) never seems to be finished... I'm hoping to get a sensor, and then see why I can't make the coils fire.

I think she needs an engine more... so she can't collect dust...

Higgi, the looks are better on the pictures then in real life, the paint does look a bit wrong....

I did get a tip the other day that next time I do this, I should paint the engine bay with radiator paint. Stuff is supposed to be strong as hell and heat resistant, they use it alot in rallying. Thinking about doing the underside and tunnel like that if I can get it in black

Mireck, its half full and being filled

Re: one project at a time mate, I am strugling with that aswell, as I work on the Rex, I get the want to fix things on the D aswell, but there are only so many hours I can spend on this per week and do the other things (like work for instance)

I need to finish this first, then we'll see what we can do with the D

Heya guys,

Yesterday wasn't a very good day Started continueing on the rear suspention. We had already broken 2 bolts trying to get the mounting brackets of the brakes off. No luck there. Eventually was able to take the brake bad holder bracket off just fine on the passenger side, on the drivers side the thing the bracket slides over is rust solid to the bracket. The result is that the brake pads have been warn out at a 10 degree angle!

Both pistons are rusted shut inside of the caliper. I don't think there is any point in salvaging these brakes.

I'm also trying to get the hubs off, the two bolt go fine, but there is a 21mm nut that I can't get off, any tips here?

Also the screw that hold the diskbrakes in place will probably need to be drilled out.

I am thinking more and more about dropping the subframe and cleaning it up completely like I've done with the front suspention and just getting some new rear calipers for them. Its a complete mess like you wont believe........

Finally! A bit of a brake (no phun intended)!

I've been busy for 2 days getting my rear disc brakes off of my car. Tonight I am bringing a drill to drill out the screws that hold them in place, I think they are put in with glue or something cause there is no moving them and now they are screwed (on both sides mind you!). Let's hope that goes well.

On a more gentle note there is however very very good news. My rear brakes are rusted vary badly and they had siezed up, so I feared the worse. But taking them appart (one of mine, and one of kims) I find 2 PERFECT pistons! Not a scratch or bit of rust on them! Totally rebuildable!

All I need now is a rebuild set for the rear brakes, a new front passenger brake and an exhaust, and I have all things to put the car back together again

Well not completely a happy ending,

I got the disk brakes loose (but not off) so thats a cool step forward. But now all 4 bolts (2 left and 2 right) of the brackets that hold the rear disk brakes have broken off and there is no movement whotsoever. Rusted beyond believe Heating, hammering, pulling, pushing, brakebars, whatever, nothing will budge those things.

To make matters worse, when we tried to lower the car on the lift only one half moved and then the thing shut down. On monday the repairman is comming and hopefully get my car off in one piece.

So a bit of bad luck. On the good side though. I have now got 2 good pistons and one ok piston, I have 3 good calipers and one unusable, and I have 2 good brackets and 1 maybe good. So if I can get the brackets off the hubs, I'm ready to put everything together again

Kim,

Cause I bought a piece of rust!!

Seriously though, I dont think I had that much bad luck really. Sure the engine has some problems then again, what do you expect, it has 200k MILES on it. The front of the car in other respects has been alot of work, but its all working out fine. The holes in the sides have been welded up and although it was a shock at first, the cost of this has been minor. Heck the most cost so far has gone into paint I slightly regret buying but hey, it worked out ok enough. The only real problem here is the left front brake but for the most part, thats my own stupid fault, should have read the manual first

Rear brakes I am pretty happy with now as far as the calipers go. Thanks to you I have all the parts needed and the only thing I need to buy now is a rebuild kit.
At some point I am probably going to have to swap out part of the rear suspention as there is alot more rust then I am happy with, but thats for later. Only real problem here is those crazy brackets.

Seeing what I paid for the car, I really got what I paid for, lets face it Its just taking a whole lot more time getting where I want to be, but other then that, it has been alot of fun and I am positive this baby will drive some day, be it alot further in the future then I wished

Yeah those flux capacitors really have a nack for time traveling without taking the car along, I now have to lend a D from a friend to go back to 1955 and pick up my flux before some idiot over there finds it and invents time travel and makes a movie out of it...

OOPZ........

too late...

Damn, I need to learn not to forget my camera

Saterday another evening at the shop. Cleaned up the tunnel where the transmission goes. Primed it, and tried the tip I got from a friend to use radiator paint as a topcoat. I actually ended up using high temparature white paint and I must say, DAMN I wish I had done the whole engine bay with this stuff. It looks DAMN good and the finish is rock hard.

It is definately giving me second thoughts about making my car white some day.

Anyways, this is a huge step forward because it means I can put the engine back in now that the painting is finished.

I'll leave the rear brakes for later, I think I'll need to drill out the brackets and retapping them for a larger bolt later on. It's gonne be a challenge getting a drill near there.

If you had a bad bolt, good thing you found it so you can fix it - right?

I was wondering what kind of high temperature paint you were using? Was it for the radiator on a car, or perhaps made for painting engine/brakes? I want rock hard finish too!

Hey Ariel,

For my brakes I just motip paint for brakes, but I am not to happy with the finish. For most of the engine parts I used high temparature spray paint (600 degrees+) and that looks pretty damn good. The paint you normally would use for your indoor central heating house radiator is also a very good deal. It's a thicker white paint that can withstand high temparatures. Makes a rock hard surface. I've used it on the tunnel and am very happy with the results

Okay, digging this old thread out of the dirt since I am back working on the RX7 after 4 months of tinkering with my new toyota

So already informed you guys I got some S5 lights. I also got an extra pair of front calipers. The guy I bought the calipers from told me the motip paint most likely wont stick as our calipers are aluminum or some crazy reason like that. Well we will see how long the paint stays on, if it goes off I can always redo it

Tonight and last night finally got back to working on the engine, some pics to follow soon. I'm giving one more attempt at getting the bolt out that I broke, I drilled it out partly and fixed something in there, I hope I can turn it out that way but I fear it is much to stuck for that, awell its worth a try. If it doesn't work I'll start drilling one size after another until I got it fully

I also remounted my waterpump, my lower intake manifold and primary injectors. I'll need to remove the injectors later on because I want to soak them in injector cleaner and I need access to closing my oil injector holes (yeah going fully premix).

This sunday night I want to see if I can finally remove my rear axles and get those damn bolts of my brackes loose. I have spare brackets right now so if they are not going off, in with the angle grinder!

Goal is to have the rears back on with toe illim bushings finally installed by the end of the night, and having the engine back in the next time we go around, then its finally a question of building it all up...
