Tiny status update
Oliver, I certainly hope so
Ariel, well I dont know, do you have access to lift the car up? Getting the gearbox in without being able to lift the car is madness, getting just the engine is would be the easy bit. Anyways, I expect that getting a 12a into a first gen will be easier, just make sure you have some help and you think it out good. Better to spend the 100 euros on something better. You do have to make the 12A as light as possible, so take of all headers and such..

I'd never try to put an engine in without a hoist! I can only say "waaaw" to those who managed that...
You'll have a problem getting the box in though. It would have been easier to attach it to the engine first, then put in both (with a hoist, of course. You can rent these things you know) as one unit. This needs two, possible three people (two is enough, three makes it way easier) to guide the engine/tranny combo, but doesn't need to much force, and will avoid any problems with alignment you'll encounter when trying to get box in now. And you will really go crazy if you can't put the car on a lift: I know what I'm talking about
With a hoist and both box and engine together you won't need a carlift, just a set of axle stands will do.

hey Bart,
Yups very true. Thats what we wanted to do, the lift was just a bonus. You should have seen the look on our faces when we couldn't find the hoist we used to take the car out and heard from the owner that it had broken down....
Putting the gearbox on was a total nightmare. I really hope we didn't bend anything. We will soon know..
Next time I am definately making sure I have a hoist

Nice Job!
tho it would be a lot easier if you canceled the whole thing and got a hoist, and put in the gearbox and engine in together, it's much easier.
keep up the good work!

This is what I got from Kim

I desided to go the 'cheap' way for preserving it. Just some POR20 Heat resistant exhaust manifold paint

Tomorow morning I'll put on a second coat, tomorow afternoon we'll bolt it onto the 13B and see how she looks

Hey guys,
I need some info. First I need to know what the threading is on the bolts on which I fasten the exhaust. I need to buy some new nuts for it and have no idea what type and I dont have one that I can take with me at the moment.
The other thing we did this weekend was try to get the center nut off of the rear axles, no budging in those
Will try again, we were trying to replace the bushings with the tie illimintator versions and without getting the center nut off this seems to be a no go
What we also found is that the original bolt is fused with the bushing so I don't seem to be able to reuse it. Does anyone know what the threading on this one is and what lenght? I can't take my own bolt with me cause they have to be able to move the car around...

Okay, finally got some time again to work on the rx7
Only two hours so not much, still I am well pleased. Photos will be posted later
Anyways, my S5 lights are on, I just need to sort the center piece holding the licence plate
Fuel lines are in place (except the small return line, only the feed and big return line are in place), I finally got the TB all done, hooked it up to the throttle
Also I got myself an impact wrench FINALLY, damn I should have bought this piece of kit years ago. It took a little effort but I finally got the center nuts of the rear axle off!! wheeeh! We didn;t have time to continue but next time we'll be taking the rear hubs off, putting the toe illims in and start putting the brakes back together
I'm also going to start getting all the electrics in order. I need to find the right bolts that I am missing on the gearbox but I'm really getting near to getting the engine running
I will be side tracking to the DeLorean soon, I need to get the gearbox out to get a bearing replaced and replace the front bushings. We'll see how that goes

Higgi, sounds like a plan but i am not sure how realistic it is. I think it will be running by then engine wise but whether it will be drivable, still need to sort out brakes and exhaust and get loads of new parts I dont have money for yet (brake pads, brake disks, proper buckets, etc). Could always take the corolla
...
But the real issue for me is the wedding, there are too many issues around that time, I have appointments at city hall and stuff
If it wouldn't have been in may but in july......

Btw, question...
Right now I am running my fuel lines directly to the fuel rails and back again. Shouldn't I put a fuel filter in between there somewhere? Or is there already one at the fuel pump??
I also read a while back about hooking the fuel rails in paralel instead of in series. Is that any better?

I'd strongly recommend getting a new one, Bas.
Fuel filters are not parts that last as long as the car! You can get a OEM mazda filter, or get a universal one (use an EFI one, obviously!) by a good make (I have a Bosch one).
As for running the rails in paralel, don't bother about it if it's a lot of work, as it'll only matter in high performance setups. If you don't see it as too much work, then go for it anyway: if it doesn't bring you much now, it won't harm either.

Re, heheh, offcourse new filters!
But when you buy one, is it the complete thing or just the filter and I still need the OEM housing or something? I was actually thinking of getting something aftermarket that I can just insert within the fuel setup I have now but I have no knowladge of these things.....

Okay guys, got some pictures this time
Didn't get much work done tonight. I took the rear appart again, removed the old bushing from the passenger side hub, found out I couldn't get the insert out and put that back together.
On the driver side I still can't get the axle out, it bushed a few millimeters again but in the progress I busted up my pully and with a bit to much bruut force that followed in attempt to solve the problem with rage I got the ends of the axle to curl up so I can no longer put my big but on it. Damnit....
Well I should be able to fix it but I am getting lost as to how to get this damn axle out....
Well pictures are here:

Also someone please tell me how I remove the metal insert that was part of the bushing

I'm starting to think if just making the toe illim bushing a little smaller so it will fit in this insert may not be a better idea...

When I removed some bushings on my Saab I used the blade from a metalsaw and carefully cut the insert without hitting the surrounding metal. When the insert was almost cut, I jammed a screwdriver between the insert and surrounding metal and used a hammer at the screwdriver to force the insert to crumble, then it was easy to remove. Took a long time, but got the job done.
