About the Ro80: you can buy nice ones in Germany, and even in Belgium, for about 5000euro.

 

I'm slowly turning my car into a very much customized machine, with almost every part altered and modified in some way... So this is what's going on right now:
We already threw out the (useless) rear seat, but didn't find time to finish the project in time for the trip to Sweden. Nevertheless, we did find time now. So we replaced the rear seat area with selfbuild storage bin, large enough to fit a relocated battery, should the need arise. I'll run them as normal storage bins now, but might relocate the battery in one of them this winter.
A good side effect is that I now have a much larger trunk-floor. We have finished the build up, but still need to put the carpets in that area, that'll be done on monday. We must finish the car before friday, since we'll head for the German club meeting then.
The whole thing seems to be coming together rather good, but it was a real pain. To do the job I had to remove the front seats, and that's damn difficult, not to mention installing them again!
Another, minor project going on is the fitment of an FC speedo, or at least trying to do so. The problem is that this looks rather simple, but isn't. The fact that I need to modify some parts like gauges doesn't put me off, but I'm a bit scared about the cable... If it doesn't work with FB cable, I'll just throw in an FC gearbox. But I'd prefer not to do that. Until then the main problem is the fact that the speedo reads 185.000km on the FC one, while 77.000 on mine (accurate for the body, but engine has only 15.000km). So now I'm trying to get the FC one at 77.000 aswell... HARD JOB!!!

 

just a little update: the FC speedo now reads 77234km, just as the FB one. Besides that, I don't really make much progress... The problem is mainly in the trip-meter reset-rod. With the FC that's on the "wrong" side, so I have to figure out a way to get it at the right side, so it won't interfere with the tacho. One positive point is that I found out the cable will fit, and that the gearing should be the same (637rev is 1km) on both, the difference in scale is due to the internal gearing inside the speedo, so that's just what I need.
For those unfamiliar with my (luxury) problem: my car pulls all up to the last (210km/h) mark on the stock speedo, and then still has more to deliver. So I want to know how fast I can go and therefor need a decent speedo. The 240km/h from the FC NA should do for a while...

That's an expensive thingie. Mine was about 100 euros, but it didn't start that high! Recently two 787B R/C cars (full kits, brand new, unopened) have been sold for not much more then this one body! I believe it was about 200 euro for one, but I'm not sure.

 

Im in the progress of doing the TB-Mod and ASV removal, I also thought about porting the manifolds but i dont know what to do, the manifolds look fine to me!!!
Anyways, As I had the manifolds off I went and had my injectors cleaned, picked them up yesterday and was told that they are worn out. They are supposed to "spray" the gas out at high pressure but all they do is "spit" it out at medium pressure
Ohh well, **** it Ill just put them back in till I can afford some new ones

 

New OEM ones are only 250 euro each, so 1.000 euro will do the job... Just get good used ones, or nicer bigger ones.

 

Ill go with the stock size injectors because I dont have a piggybag system or anything else to tell the ecu that it has to control other injectors. And we all know that I dont need myre fuel

I also took the waterpump off and threaded the new water temperature sensor into the aluminium housing.
City driving is 92 degrees celsius, whereas highway cruising(160-170kmh) is 87-89 degrees celsius.

Now the next project will be to make a shroud to guide the air to my radiator, because when we were in Sweden last week it only took like 3 or 4 laps for the motor to get really hot.

Maybe you need a better fan too? The problem with FC's and later with FD's is the fact that they tilted the radiator. With the FD it's nearly flat. You need a good shroud there, and I think a vented hood would also help a lot.
I'm planning to install a (tilted) FC radiator, but I'll sure install a nice shroud and fan and maybe a vented hood.

 

No vented hood for my car, I dont want to cut my nice aluminium hood.

 

we are thinking about making fiberglass hoods for our FC's (most of guys here does have heavy steel ones anyways) and of course i would like to make some vented ones too, just have not make final decision on which type of vent it will be

BTW: which FC's came with alu hood, and which with steel? I thought only late TII's had alu hoods, but I seem to be wrong, according to Kim? (as said before, I'm not much of a FC guy, yet)

 

In theory, the S5s came with allu hoods. However, this is NOT true (or it could be true for USA), because mine, which was one of the few '92 S5s, came with a heavy-as-hell steel hood....

 

I dont know either, it was Higgi who told me that I had one, I didnt even know FCs had aluminumhoods, ohh well atleast that part of the car wont rust

 

Guys, if you are ever in a similar position, try to hold both an FD hood and a TII steel hood in your hands at the same time (or try to open them to look into the engine bay)......

The difference in weight is PHENOMENAL I dont know exactly the actual weights of the hoods, but it felt like the TII hood was 3-4 times heavier than the FD one

I'm guessing that the TII alluminum hood should be around the same weight as the FD one......

FD hoods are light indeed. I was very suprpised when I lifted it for the first time.

But then again, we lift it so often we get used to it

 

Try to lift a steel TII hood, and you'll see what I mean......
