I have a FB hood and a FC hood (NA) in the garage. When we moved them, I was amazed at how much lighter the (larger) FC hood was. The FB hood which is way smaller actually was very heavy in comparison.

Not all US model S5's came with aluminum hoods, either. My old 90 and my 91 both had steel. Not even all TII's had aluminum hoods, either. Lots of sources on the Forum indicate that the distribution was rather random. The only US FC's that were guaranteed aluminum hoods from the factory were the 10th anniversary TII (1988) and the GTUs (89 and 90).

The difference in weight is indeed amazing. I have two spare Al non-turbo hoods in my garage. No, they don't need homes overseas...

Oh, I was thinking N332. Yeah, you're right about that... Shouldn't be too different for the pinouts, though. I would imagine only the internals different.

US equivalent is N326 (S4 NA)

but look on pictures how they are different :

http://rx7cz.net/photos/works15/IMG_0060.JPG

this should explain it

European N322 does not controll ignition at all, car has first gen style coils and distributor....thats why it has smaller plug...

I have pulled the engine from my NA, and will rebuild and port it as soon as I can get that damn flywheel nut off.. I have bought a new impact with a max of 1356nm "nut busting force", I am hoping that will do it - using a breaker bar extended to 1m. and using all my weight on the end didn't do anything.

Kim - looking forward to pics and videos!

I know a good way to break it loose.
Heat the **** out of it with an acetylene torch (gas/ilt) then break it loose with a huge breakerbar.
Worked for me

Hmm, I used one of those garden weed-burners to heat it, but apparently something stronger is needed. If the new impact wrench doesn't work, perhaps I should get a strong torch.

Yipee! After a few attempts my new impact wrench did it! I can really reccomend this impact, feels great to use. It is a Ingersoll-Rand 2135qti (http://www.toolrage.com/prodView.asp?idproduct=3137)

/!\ 56k ;)

so its probably about time I posted again on this section ... but it seems most of the guys who were about when I last posted are seldom around like myself (Kim and Oliver are the exception to rule I see )

Here are some photographic updates of my latest projects

As you can see the rx7 is still on the go (quad throttle bodies are being fitted etc.)
The 323 rally car is finished and being rallied frequently
and I have a new project to keep me out of trouble ... a 1979 RWD 323 ... soon to be rotary I hope (spot the rx3 x-member)

Lost fuelpressure for some reason, rear rotor ate some apexseals due to detonation.
Motor is out, waiting to be taken apart

Eitherway this is the opportunity to go Peripheral port.

Still sucks donkeyballs though

DOH! - very sorry to hear that.. Better sort out the fuel-problem before PPort, you wouldn't want to mess up those housings!
Perhaps you could get the original PPort housings cermet coated or something?

OK just took the motor apart today.
We discovered that a rotor-bearing had spun on the shaft.
No apex seals were broken but we have a fucked up rotor and stationary gear + bearings.
Afterall it seems to be a cheap rebuild process.
Going to order race bearings from mazdartrix one of these days.
We have decided to go Peripheral port this time, reusing/modifying the housings and irons.
