Target AFR'S The Definite Thread!

Ok I am starting to get my car more road tunned, the Hitman's Map is way too rich so I am tuning it down.
So far I have found this.
Target for Iddle: 11.9 - 14.1
Target for Light throttle and Cruise 13.9 - 15.1
Target under boost 0-5psi: 12.9 - 11.9
Target for Boost 5-10 psi: 12.5 - 11.3
Target for Boost above 10psi: 12.1 - 11.1

Now that is just what I have found through searching for days, could those of you with experience please post whether those are good ranges or not.
I realize the best method is to both Dyno and Road tune, however I want to get a good Road tunned map before getting on the dyno so please help me tune via WB02 and EGT. So please guy's post any changes you think should be made to the above ranges, or your suggestions/methods.
Thanks In Advance
Jeffrey

but I wrote the thread in each forum to get input so somebody looking wouldn't have to sift through 1000's of threads to get usefull info like I had to.

Can you post the links of the other threads? I am curious to see what the opinions are. I'm with 12.0 A/F for anything up to 20-22psi, anything more I would like to be a little richer.

do a search, I spent days reading through threads, it would take me the same amount of time to post them again, I used the search function to find what I have posted.

I disagree with the premise that an AFR meter can make up for a lack of tuning skills. This may be one of the reasons you are not getting any "useful" responses. Also, you posted in the Haltech forum which has very limited traffic. I will move this thread to the general EMS forum where more people will see the thread title.

Yes I am just looking to get a good idea, I have read books and actually taken a night class so my theory on EFI tuning is infact indepth. However you are correct that I have not a whole lot of first hand experience. This is just to make a good database where people can see how they are matching up with people's setups. it gives a good baseline idea where to start.
So do not get me wrong;
DO NOT TUNE YOUR CAR BASED ON AFR'S ALONE!

i've tuned my fuel to about 10.8-11.1 afr's, so i'm down a little bit of power. however, running anywhere over 11.5:1 above 10psi makes me a little nervous. i'll sacrifice 10hp for a little more peace of mind.

and yes i agree. do not tune your car on fuel alone. (even though thats where i am right now) i havent even messed with my timing, but the ign is running off of the hitman baseman so its pretty conservative. i'll get into that later if i ever get an EGT gauge.

Just to make it clear, how do you tune a car besides A/F ratios, and EGT's. I just don't think tunning by using knock is such a good idea with our engines.
thanks

You have to tune based on AFR, EGT, and know alot of theory about how the flame front works within the combustion chamber so there are many reasons the afr would read rich when it isn't and EGT's would go up or down depending on a couple of circumstances. I suggest you do as much reading as you can. Buy a couple of books, worth every last penney.

What books would you recomend, and if you have an ISBN number that would rock! When I dyno tuned my car, we played alot with the ignition as well as the A/F ratio, when all was said and done, i droped 9hp, but picked up 8ft/lb of torque just by retarding the timing, with 11.2:1 A/F ratio, at 9psi. Can you explain why this happens.

Yes I can but it would be better if you bought this book;
There is a newer version of it out (I year newer)
"How To Tune & Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman
ISBN:0-7603-1582-5

this one is good as well;
Building & Tuning High-Performance Electronic Fuel Injection
by: BEN STRADER

This one was not as good but a descent read if you can get it on loan from a library or something;
Engine Management: Optimising Carburettors, Fuel Injection and Ignition Systems (Haynes High-Performance Tuning Series)
By; Dave Walker
