I Need Help Picking the right ECU

I need help. I just bought a 93 Touring and I need a new ECU. Heres my upgrades :

Stock ECU

Trust Jasma Full Exhaust ( dp, mp, cat-back )
Trust Turbo Timer
HKS Supersequential BOV
Custom K&N Intake
RS Akimoto Top Mount Intercooler
Eibach Sportline Springs
Tokico Illumna 5 way shocks
Momo Rims
Momo Shift ****

Im looking at getting:

T04E Single Turbo Kit from XS Engineering
Supra Fuel Pump
1600 cc secondaries

For ECUs Im looking at the Apexi Power FC and Controller, but I have read that you need a good shop to tune it for you. So the problem is that I live in North Dakota and there is no shops even close. So is there an ECU that doesnt involve a lot of tuning. I was also looking at getting the Apexi AVC R boost controller to monitor and control the boost. Im new to this so please help me. Thanks

Jhammerrx7,
Your situation sounds like a recipy for disaster, for it would be a tuners nightmare to smoothen the transition between your primarys & your 1600cc secondaries with the Apexi power FC.
Might be a thought to to choose a more user defined EMS where the % staging of the secondaries & base pulse width can be controlled with much higher or lower resolution ie. MoTeC M4
Maybe even a good thought to downsize secondaries to 1000cc aswell..

cheers

I used a Haltech E6K with my FC which had:
60-1 T04B
550cc primary/1600cc secondary (low impedance)
stock coils/ignitors
Greddy FMIC
Street ported 3mm motor w/ hardended stationary gears
SX FPR (Static pressure set to 45psi; yes it's high)
coil-overs yada Supra TT fuel pump yada....

At first, it was a big gap on the power band when the 1600cc injectors would kick in.
After some tuning with a wideband lambda O2 sensor, it ran smooth. You'll just need to spend more time fine tuning the fuel map near your staging point (for my set-up) when the secondaries turn on.

well, i need also some help!

my standard FD without mods still has the standard ECU.
i have a apexi power intake on the shelf and want to install it. after that or before that i want a downpipe, midpipe and catback.

my stages:
- 1st the downpipe to get rid of the heat
- 2nd the catback
- 3rd the intake
- 4th the midpipe

where comes the ECU and what ECU should i take? Pettit? but what i don't get is this: if i got another ECU, downpipe, catback and intake and i want to take a midpipe, should i get another ECu by then???

Get to "stage 3" send the ECU out and have it tuned for "stage 4." Plug it in with the MP.

thanx nameless for the reply.

rests me one question: is it possible to install the tuned ECU _before_ step 1 or step 2? or does that harm to the engine?

If you are looking for a standalone EMS, then it would be preferable to install the EMS first. That way you can make sure that everything is working properly before you begin to add the other mods. It's pretty difficult to troubleshoot if you add 100 mods all at once. The EMS will also give you MAP, intake air temp, AFR, and other data to help keep you from getting in trouble when adding boost-increasing or lean-inducing mods like a DP. Also, if you get the ECU first, then you can play around with it while the engine is running in a less critical "stock" condition. Most people save the EMS for later because of the cost.

I don't like "performance chips", but if this is what you want, then find out exactly which mods the manufacturer made the chip for, and install the mods and chip all at once. The tuning still will not be optimal, but it is a lot less expensive than a standalone EMS and dyno tuning.

After blowing my last engine, with no more than an intake and exhaust, im doing the smart thing, as reccomended by Evil Aviator. Im getting the stand alone EMS first. I figure, if I dont buy it now, then ill never get it. If I wouldve gotten my motor first, I know I wouldve disregarded the EMS, and slapped the motor in cause im impatient like that. Now also I wont have to worry about adding another piggyback when I put on a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, or an intercooler.

thank you Evil Aviator and TonyTurboII.
everything clear now. i'll buy a Power FC before doing anything and have it tuned everytime i installed a mod.
rather good and a healthy engine then a ecu and probably a rebuild.

thanks again, i'm confinced.

best wishes from the Netherlands,
Andreas.
