Data Logging to PC

I did a search but with no success cuz I dont really know what to search for. First question is, is our stock computer OBDII?

Now, one time my friend hooked up a specialy serial cable to the diagnostic hookup on a car and hooked it up to his laptop and got all kinds of real time data readings from every sensor. It was awesome.

Is this possible with our cars? What software is needed and what hardware is needed. Can the cable be hand made? I really want it just to see the sensor readings real time on my car...not to tune just yet.

Thanks.

No RX-7 release officially in the U.S. has any OBD circuitry embedded in it's ECU.

Just got a Microtech MTX-8
I just found out that it's possible to tune it using ur laptop. Also gives you 3D graphs, real time data readings & allows you to save data logs to your laptop. Don't know very much about it yet.
Haven't hooked it up yet, gonna use it on my 12AT.

WinDaq 192 costs $13.

You can datalog 4 channels at once.

Works, looks cheap, but works, and for $13 it is worth it.
