CA Quick question of rear end and what not!?!?...

Yea i am currently putting together everything for a swap (cant say what yet!..lol) and with what i got i think im going to out putting around 400hp ....

and I see alot of different guys that have power ranging from 150hp-450hp (maybe more iono) drifting it! AND here are the questions i had:

-What kind of modifications did you do to your rear end?
-What kind of parts broke with that kind of power?
-Any tips on where there might need strengthening?
-Are you running a welded or 1.5/2 way diff?
-Will a welded break if im trying to push this much hp?
-Should i upgrade output shafts and where can i get them?

So yea there are more questions but there are the majors ones i have!

Thanks again to anyone that responds!
-Dee

Several guys on here, zt, and a few other forums are putting out some numbers like that and are running TII rear ends. S4 ofcourse. You might want to ask this question in the drag section or maybe somewhere else if you want some options and more insight.

I promise if you put an n/a welded in that car, you'll be bringing out the tools or putting that vert back on a trailer really quick.

Well first off he thinks HP breaks drivetrain.
Second he has no real life experience with these power numbers
3rd he thinks that whether you have a 1.5 or 2 way will determine if you break stuff.
4th he's just regurgitating other peoples setups.

Let him post more and I'll come up with more reasons.

I have a question, Why does it seem no one likes the Welded NA diffs? Thats what I put in mine after the S4 NA blew (plated and welded). I havent had a chance to hit a track yet but it feels fine on the street.

The reason I ask is, S chassis guys do welded and their bullet proof. Why is it FC diffs arent the same

thats what im wondering too because my S13 w/ SR that i just sold was putting out about 380hp to the wheels on a dynamic dyno AND i was running a welded diff!

I beat the crap out of the car going to track events almost 2 times a month and street drifting with normal driving. The diff never failed on me or anything! The funny thing was when i was selling the car i did a compression test and it was literally 140psi all across 4 cylinders..

Im sure there are some guys in here that could enlighten us on this!!

S4 T2 diff.

My buddy has an turbo ls1 making 700 HP/torque and has had no problems yet with the diff. Granted he is losing traction till mid 4th gear (120 mph). NO traction the secret to not breaking diffs lol

oooooo perfect!..lol but i dont really see how this helps the rear end?

the vertical bump of the diff i see but does it really bump up and down that much to destroy the arms and output shafts of the diff?..lol

Yes. All the vertical stress on the output shafts is usually what breaks them.

My N/A only makes around 160-170, but I've had a welded in it for about 4 years now (had it before I owned it). I've replaced the transmission and engine twice and still have the same diff. I've replaced the fluid on it once, thats it.

It stops you from ripping front diff mounts in half every week.
