New info about DGRR 08 - post date 7-19-2007

DJ, its up to you what you do. I personally think its not worth it but who knows... You have different ideas than I do.. Also, all the meals and all the event activities will take place at the other location. Which means, you would still need to drive out there.. But again, its your call.
I'll post all the pros and cons about the new location on monday!

LOL! DJ, after my trip this weekend, I'll finalize the registration fees and such.. Then you would want to call them ASAP and reserve a lodge. My guess is that this year, will be bigger than last as I'm getting more interest from vendors and attendees.. Also, rock bottom registration fees for those who sign up for the first tier registration (there will be three tier pricing).
So keep an eye out for Registration info on this site!!

Me and Stephen just came back from the new place (Nantahala Village).
This is my HONEST impression!!! I LIKE THE PLACE!!
Here are the pros and cons..
Cons..
1. 30mins farther away from Deals Gap
2. Gravel driveways to the lodges
3. Limited lodge (300 people max capacity)
4. Some cabins are kind of difficult to get to (shuttle service might be provided)
Pros..
1. Cell phones work!! except Nextel (my Verizon worked like a charm! and Stephen's Verizon air card worked!)
2. People are SUPER nice!
3. We would have the whole place to ourselves!! Total flexiblity.
4. Some of the cabins are AMAZING!! 4 Bedroom cabin will sleep upto 8-12 and Its fantastic places (cost $300-400 a night).
5. Huge patio for gatherings
6. Food was excellent
7. Many many things to do (paint ball, spa, horseback ride, rafting, etc at discounted rate)
8. Beer run will be only 3 miles away
9. Excellent views from some of the cabins.. I mean amazing!
10. Access to private conference room, dinning room, private dinning room, etc.. Total access of the place for me to do anything I would like to set up.
There are couple of issues I've seen from this place and going to try to resolve the issues.. If everything goes ok and you guys are ok with couple of issues, I'm going to lock the place in.
My main concern is what your thoughts about gravel parking?? Also because of some of the cabins locations, it would be quite difficult for some of the 7s to go up to some of the spots. I've driven my 8 up there and I was able to get to most of the cabins without an issue. But if it were to rain, I think it would be quite difficult without an SUV. But the views and cabins (more like HOUSES) are quite amazing!

Well I guess I could run the shuttle service in the H3 if need be since I finally got the FD running yesterday long enough to realize my coolant seals are shot. So the rebuild process begins...

For me it's not so much if I'm willing to drive down gravel... I prefer not to but I will; just ask my gf (her parents have a long gravel drive way... almost going cross country)... anyway, for me it's a matter of how level is the road? I have a very very low clearing car to where I have to enter most parking lots at an angle or I'll bottom out.
I guess what I'm saying is... what's the condition of said gravel driveway?
Oh, and sorry I couldn't make it Phil! I really wanted to believe me!!!

I'll post couple of pics..
I only took pics of the parking area.... and me and stephen drove up to the highest cabin/house in my 8 (stock height but I have MS front and MS sides... next to my FD, its actually slightly lower). I think if it doesn't rain going to the top shouldn't be a problem... The top cabin/house are AMAZING!! I looked at cabin 180 (which I might get) and it had amazing view of the mountains.. and the place is HUGE!!
First pic: Parking area for all the cars... I think we could sqeeze in 100-150 cars
This is the main lobby, there is another 40-50 spots front of the main lobby.. This is where I'm going to have all the feature cars and vendors will park..
They have total of 60-65 cabins and rooms. Total capacity is 300 people. If I block this off and we could fill 90+% of the place, The whole place will be OURS! Thats a BIG plus even though some of the cabins might be hard to get to....
They also have a HUGE patio that could seat 300+ people... A game room with 3 pool tables, 4-5 video games, etc.. I stayed in one of the lodge room and me and Stephen thought it was so MUCH better than Fontana.
Pricing wise, I think if you book early, it would be similar to price at Fontana.. 3 miles down, there was huge water rafting center and couple of restuarants and shops. They sell beer there!! NO MORE hour drive to make beer runs... But I suggest you bring your own beer/wine/liquor. If you bring it, we could set up something at the patio to chill everything.
Please ask what every questions you have... After going up to the cabins and possible problems with the roads, I did ask them to hire a shuttle service for us. I should find out and will lock in sometime this week if you all like the idea and ok with taking a shuttle etc.. ONLY the cabin/houses across the street from the main lodge will be affected by this.. You could walk but it would be about 10 min walk to the top of the hill/mountain...
I'll also see if I can find google sat. pic.

Say hello to Mr.Wankel
iTrader: (7)
what kind of price are we talking? so they do have lodge rooms? im making a lot less money this year than last year, and with school. whats their rules on pets? i just bought a dog and id like to bring it next year.
also, this huge balcony. we could host a night time gathering there and chill, eat, and drink. maybe even a kegger if we feel frisky

regarding price.... Goto: www.nvnc.com and do a search.. it varies pending what you are looking for. They have agreed to give 25% off til end of Dec.
They have very limited lodge rooms (I believe 10 or so).
Large patio will be used for our main saturday night dinner and gathering afterwards..
Pets.. I believe pets are allowed but there is 10 or 15 extra cleaning fees...
Keg, well, I have thought about it and still thinking about that... I'll let you know..
But for now, let me know if this location will be ok or not..
