The NEW FC Shifter Thread - READ ME

Alright everyone, here it is. This is a picture of the production piece.

It shows most of what it comes with, but there are bolts, another bushing (lower) and a steel sleeve that it doesn't show. The bushings and boot are all new Mazda OEM parts. The parts are a little dirty, but they're been in a car being road tested for the last 2-3 months.

The first thing I would like to point out is the nylon sleeve, and how this helps alleviate a lot of the noise problems we commonly encounter with FC short shifters. The next thing to notice is the sheer size of the unit, the girth specifically. When you shorten your shift throw it is important to re-weight the top half of the shifter so that you don't end up having to push as hard to change gears. This is the same idea when using a weighted shift ****, more weight means more momentum, and more momentum means less work for you. Other short shifters on the market either come in two pieces and screw together, or have a thinner shaft which while reducing weight, dramatically increases the amount of effort needed to change gears. Ours has been balanced and weighted for maximum ease of shifting.

This being said, I'm excited about them, I'm going to buy one for my own car, I'm going to run it. But, and there's always a but, there is a catch:

In order for these to become a permanent production piece in the CS parts catalog the boss has decided that we need to try and get 20 orders up front, with a partial deposit down before we get these things actually mass produced at a price that is affordable for both us and you. When considering investing thousands of dollars into production on a piece, they want to make sure that people actually want to buy it and we aren't sitting on parts for 5 years.

That's the bad news, the good news is that you will receive a discount on the price of the shifter if you're one of the first 20 people in on it.

Our retail price is going to be either $189 or $199, we haven't decided yet, but more likely higher than lower. If you get in on the original 20 person pre-order you will get the shifter for $169, that's $20-$30 off.

So here it is, the picture you've all wanted, and the group buy to go with it. Actually, don't think of it as a group buy, think of it as the only way we're actually going to get these things made.

I want these just as bad as you guys do, so to prove to you how serious I am about this I'm going to start off the list. I'll update it as people want in. Once we get enough people together, it will be about 4-6 weeks turnaround and then I'll have a giant pile of these things for you guys.

Sign me up! Where do we send money, and how much do we need to deposit?

I figure we should get the necessary 20 people to get this going easily. Reason being the other thread is just packed with people wanting the shifter. Lets go people!! The faster we get this 20 the faster we can all be shifting with luxury!

The RX8 shift **** would fit this shifter, correct?

It will be due when we get 20 people, it will be $50, and I won't be taking the rest of the money until the shifters arrive and I am ready to ship.

I don't want to take any money before we get 20 people, so that just in case we don't get that many I'm not doing a bunch of refunds.

It's comparable in style and function to the MazdaSpeed short shifter, which is no longer available. It's better than the MazdaTrix unit because the MazdaTrix shifter uses a very thin non-weighed shaft which results in more effort being needed to change gears.
