Right now, the forum is clicking right alongperfectly, but it is early afternoon for most of the US. Give it about 4 or 5 hours and the forum will become almost unuseable when heavy load hits in the evening. Usually between about 5pm and 12 midnight I have to wait 30-60 seconds for pages to load.
But yes, there has been a measureable improvement within the last week.

Forum stat bench-racers ... geez
Do you really think you can break down a forums traffic by what the front page says is how many people are online? Most forums change the default 5 minute timeout to 10 minutes or more, to make it look like more people are online. Even then it's page views that matter.
I posted a pretty good description of what we're doing here, take a look:

It, like pretty much everything we do, you don't see ... it's all behind the scenes. I don't think the removing of big threads and cutting down PM's has much of an impact at all, don't think it does simply because it's the only thing visible.

I read your email
You're right RotaryResurrection come tonight things will get slow again. The root of the problem stems from table locks in the db. To alleviate the problem we've added a slave database server to the mix which will be used to offload some of the more intense db operations. Once the forum software gets upgraded we'll be able to take full advantage of this new server and I expect to see stabilization with the site performance. The guys are working on modifying the site templates now and I'm hoping that it'll be done within a few weeks.

Thank you guys, I know it hasnt been said enough, and I know the topic of this thread has deviated abit. But I just thought I would jump in here randomly, and say I am very pleased with this forum. Out of the few I belong to, this is by far the best. And I mean that in all reguards, organization, usefullness, speed, I really could go on. So I dont do hugs, but you can get an E-Thumbs up from me

I always get a little offended every time someone posts "Goto to xy.com forum to talk about such things." I think this site is excellent and I certainly appreciate the work. There's a reason why it gets so conjested :-P. Thank you. (of course as I'm writing this I'm preparing my own "complaint"...)
