Forum Change Suggestions

I see a lot of threads about people bitching about one thing or another. I've been one of the people bitching in the past. However, since I like this forum, I'd like to see it stay running.

Post up CONSTRUCTIVE things you would like to see changed. Don't turn this into a bashing thread. This is meant to help the admins/owner/whoever make well informed decisions as to what to do.

Please put up the reason that you think the change would be beneficial.

My suggestions:

1. Change the layout/skin/whatever it's called to what it was before the fix. I thought it was easier to navigate with and see.
2. Make the default font a bit larger. Another size or two up would be nice. As of now, it's kind of hard to read.

I agree with enlarging the default font.

I also dislike having to "click reply above to activate the quick reply". It would be much easier the way it was before where you simply start typing in the quick reply box.

I liked the date/time stamps rather than the current relative stamps we have now.

A big thanks to Ryan and the others who have been working on it. The forum was slow as dogshit yesterday but now that some of the bugs are worked out it seems to be running smoothly enough, along with rx8club.

Hmmm, I see that it is, it must have been changed. I posted that using the standard reply button. Yesterday, however, you could not simply start typing in the quick reply box...gray text there said "click reply above to activate the quick reply".

Kevin can't afford to pay attention ...

We're working on the styles, basically just ironing things out. The big change is speed, today it's FLYING! And it's no coincidence

Whats wrong with the fonts? I like them small..... You people have bad eyes? Crappy monitors? Bad eyes BECAUSE of crappy monitors?

My suggestions:
1. You should have a donation feature using paypal or what not. Rather than bitching about it, I'd rather send you 5 bucks. 5 bucks isn't much, but I'd rather be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
2. Theme design contest! You should hold one to see who can come up with the best RX-7 vBulletin theme. Winner gets their theme used on the site and a complementary banner ad of their choice for a year or something (just an idea).
3. Image gallery? I realize the hardware is already taxed beyond belief - maybe we could make this a project for a different server....
4. A Wiki would be a great way to organize data so people didn't HAVE to post on the forum. If this site had a well-written, easy to navigate, editable knowledge base; people could rely on it for information rather than asking the same thing over and over. (I know this is asking a lot..... 1 out of 4 people are mentally retarded and won't look at the wiki anyways).

I run a dell 21" widescreen LCD, so no crappy monitor. I run a meduim resolution of 1280x768, but my monitor sits about 36" back on my big desk so it's not like I'm right in front of it either. I can see standard font sizes on forums fine, and I can also see this one, but it isn't comfortable, and I dont want to have to change my resolution to suit this forum and then have it be off on all the others I visit.

My suggestion - Allow unlimited thread editing capability for those who pay to run a GB. It creates a huge hassle when running a GB if you cannot go back and update information. There are changes that need to be made as GBs evolve that are more complex than simple deletion requests. Not being able to edit your old posts is an issue as it creates confusion and needless repetition. I Find myself repeating the same things over and over and answering questions based on outdated information time and again.

Ofcourse full editing capability would be ideal as those running GBs could regulate their threads and delete all of the superfluos posts. This increases GB efficiency with the added benefit of using less server hard drive space. At the bare minimum we should be able to delete/edit our own posts.

Other, larger forums like LS1Tech allow open post editing with no apparent issues.

Hats off for putting together the site upgrade BTW!

+1 on this.... The site is INCREDIBLY improved in speed and response time. I've tried it on several different internet connections throughout the day and on every one of them (except our super congested DSL line) its extremely responsive.

The words I'm using ('extremely', 'INCREDIBLY', and 'responsive') are relative to how it was before. I've seen quicker forums; This forum, however, takes the cake for the load:speed ratio.

I agree wholeheartedly and also notice that other forums allow it. Even if the argument is made that rx7club has too many scammers and shady sellers that could use the feature to their advantage, there should be some method of meeting qualifications for this privilege, whether it be a paid subscription, a set number of posts, set length of seniority on the forum, or on a per-request basis with the moderators so that only known good sellers can access the feature.

It would also allow us to police our own thread crapping issues and get rid of the meaningless "nice car, hope you sell it, good luck, my mom's brother's dog used to have one just like it and I used to love riding in it, it was mad quick y0" posts that clutter up the actual sale thread.

Plus items that are for sale could be removed as they are sold, to keep people from seeing them and asking about them. And the entire thread can be pulled once everything is sold. And it would keep new users from running a search 6 months later and asking if you still have it for sale.

Well put Kevin. Perhaps this can be handled on a can be handled on a case-by-case basis. At the end of the day it would be to everyone's advantage for trusted GB coordinators and other regular members to be able to keep things streamlined and up-to-date.

Regarding scamming: I don't see this as a huge issue as email and PM correspondence and the copy and paste functions on everyone's computers will not be affected.

I really think the ticket is to allow those who can be trusted to do their part in policing the forum. Over all of these yrs on the forum I have never had 1 negative piece of negative feedback. I have always been ethical in my buying and purchasing practices and have dedicated large amount of time constructing informative posts and helping junior member as a means of giving back to the forum; perhaps deleting rights would be a justifiable way to reward upstanding members and increase the overall efficiency of the forum? (within constraints of course). Ofcourse I am by no means saying that I am some special case as there are those regular member like Phil, Rich, Chris, Kevin etc. Who have gone far and above. Just a thought. Ofcourse one possible solution is to become a vendor even though its not financially justifiable at the moment.

Another suggestion. Set a post count/ membership duration requirement for the FS section. On LS1 Tech for example you cannot sell anything until you've been a member for a month or exceeded like 50 posts, also posts in the FS section do not count. I think a post count requirement of 150 posts and 1 month as a member should be required. This will act as a buffer to keep dirt bags from changing screen names at the drop of a hat and the fact that they need to post 150 times will give members time/chances to sniff them out.

Another suggestion: PDF attachment size needs to be upped just a teeny bit.. maybe 400k? Its not a popular file type, so... wouldn't get much of it.. and I think the FSM is too big.

What about avatar size? I remember the size being limited to like... 4k or something. Thats ridiculously small. I'd like to have a small animated one in more than 16 colors. Hehe.

Ooh more!

Had yet another stupid suggestion:

Put links to 1st/2nd/3rd gen FAQ's in the FAQ linked page at the top of the site. (next to user CP). When people say "Did you read the FAQ" it might be confusing to some.
