Track car build, not sure if there will be many fans...lol.
So, it's been a while since any updates. Little less time on the projects since business has picked up. The teg is all wired up, set up a base map on the AEM, started cranking, and whadda-you-know, can't get a cam/crank signal sync! Was worried for a while, did some research & realized that AEM has a hatred of honda distributors (very low signal, easy to lose with electrical noise, and pretty much needs to be a brand spanking new OEM one. So we said screw that, time to go Coil-On-Plug. Hot the AEM EPM to replace the dizzy. Had to mod a couple fuses on the board to be compatible with the hall-effect AEM EPM. Got the MegaSquirt QuadSpark coil driver because it appears to be much better built that the easy-to-overheat tiny AEM one. Using CBR600RR coils (luckily, we had spares from the race bike). Spark plugs coming on monday. Hopefully she starts next week!
Well it had non-resistor plugs which was making the crank signal go all fugly. Swapped in resistor plugs and bam car worked properly. Took a bit to figure out since I thought it was the actual CAS itself and the shoddy wiring work but eventually looked at the plugs and facepalm lol. It also made the radios work better too lol.

Crazy what electrical noise can do huh? Who woulda thunk it? Hope we meet up at the track! Would love to see & hear that 20b rippin' up the track. Makes me so anxious to get my 12a Turbo setup going...too bad I gotta concentrate on the race car & the van for now. We are getting the rear lexan & front windshield soon also though! So close, and getting so impatient, lol. Sadly we won't be making the CSCS season opener, especially since it's all sold out.

once this beast is done we should hit up grandbend with justin. its only $50 for wednesday night lapping . my FC and FD are pretty much good to go hopefully get my track car finished off sometime this summer
Great job, its crazy the stuff you find wrong with a car when u start pulling the paint off.
haha i was thinking the same thing (im only 30) but man a week with puss in my yes cumming out in clumps each 20seconds, i leaned my lesson FAST!!
Looks like a great project! Regardless of the car, it's always nice to see people putting their own time and effort into a car - especially if it will end up being on the track. Enjoy the process!
I can't believe I'm about to say this (I feel so old!) but looking at the pic below: Put on some safety goggles! I've seen what grinding metal can do to unprotected eyes, and it's not pretty.

Immanuel, that's friggin gross, haha. And that's just reading it. I'll keep that in mind.
FC3SDrift, I'm still waiting for a visit, lol. Wanna see those rotary beasts! And trust me, I've already spoken to Justin, haha. Maybe next week with the Odyssey? It's no race car, but it'll be fun! Haha. 5-spd high revving motor in anything is fun, lol. Are you going to brampton this weekend for that stretch & poke show? A bunch of us are going down.

So I missed a bunch of stuff in the update...so...let me re-update...lol
Couldn't even turn the wheels that much without rubbing the fender.
Had to roll the fenders and do a slight pull to clear the wheels :P

Anddddd with both wings :o

A friend swung by with his new car...

Thennnn... Engine Start Button finally came in

Installed it beside the main power switch... (I love flicking the main power switch... so much fun lol)

Then, Had to install the AEM Wideband gauge, came out pretty sweet

Finished the harness, mostly, we just have to wrap everything, we fueled it up, started setting up the basemap on the EMS, and hopefully get to hear her roar tomorrow

And finally, a shot of my 2 beasts.... I love CF as you can see lol

Are those Princess Auto fuse panels? If so, be very careful with them. I've seen the contacts become intermittent on several occasions. I don't think they make the contacts with spring steel so they relax over time.
Well, not much progress on the teg for the past while since we didn't realize that the DIYAutoTune module is transistorized and not CDI, which didn't go across very well with the CBR coils, so we popped a coil (sorta cool yet sorta scary :S, lol). Anyway, since then, we have spoken to AEM and are being sponsored by them now, so we are waiting on the paperwork to be finalized so we can get the TwinFire & the AEM Smart Coils, then we should HOPEFULLY finally get her running.
I'll post pics as soon as I get the caliper brackets & accord front calipers mounted on the rear & few other little things...in the mean time, here's something to entertain you guys, once again unsure how many will like it, lol, but here's our H22 powered 5-spd '95 Odyssey:
I don't know if you can see it in the pictures too well but we tried wrinkling a white base and then put some teal in the clear over top. We are getting some mixed reviews on it but that is why it is so bumpy looking.

CB9 Cluster - doesnt fit the greatest because the framing hits the plugs at the bottom so we plan on changing soon

The Interior will be black with all gun metal accents.

The result thus far... still needs a few more coats of clear, but we are going to place the decals first before finishing the paint.

Another full shot of it

New Valve Cover for the H22

Re-wrapped headliner & interior panels being re-painted black and installed. She's slowly coming back together inside

And the paint seems to be a love it or hate it sorta deal. I think we have decided to re-paint it though. Not sure on a colour yet. I'll hopefully be making a turbo manifold for it over the winter to use with a stock R32 GT-R turbo (probably top mount). Stock internals, so that turbo should be more than sufficient.

Dwell set correctly? I'm not familiar with the coils but typically popping coils would indicate too much dwell. Unless those coils are CDI only with a VERY low primary resistance, which they very well could be.
Yea they are CDI, and as far as I know the dwell is fine, set according to AEM standards. Let's just say after finnicking around a bunch with the wiring and settings & speaking to DIYAutoTune, I learned a decent bit more about coils, lol. Apparently some CBR coils are transistorized, but there's no way of telling...lol, too bad I didnt have those.
It's all good though, everything happens for a reason. know a lot more about coils now & now we're getting a TwinFire & Smart Coils, can't argue with that
