Someone Slap Me

Lately I've been thinking about about putting a Garrett GTX-4294R on which is the same dimensions as the HKS T51R KAI which some japs use in their road coarse cars. But since its billet it should perform better... Someone help me please before I do something stupid...

Do it. In fact, stop being a *****. Get a 3 rotor, THEN do it.

Marco, did you end up rebuilding the 500R? Are you using the same manifold that came with that kit or another one?

I'm still using the 500R-SP manifold with the 6765 but I'm making a new one with twin wastegates. The manifold is actually part reason why I started thinking about this as I was going to get a new 6765 with the race cover. Since I'm making a new manifold, I can put the turbo anywhere I want so basically I have the option of going with any turbo atm.

The GTX-4294R is actually a better option then the T51R KAI even though the compressors are the same size.

1) the GTX billet design flows more
2) the divided turbine housing will offer better response
3) its cheaper

The T51R SPL has a bigger compressor so it will make more power but it will be laggier. However, its possible the GTX-4294R might still outflow it due to the billet design. Hard to say without some compressor maps for the T51R.

I was only comparing it to the T51R and why I would not buy that turbo. Haven't made up my mind yet....

Also, no 3 rotors. Some of you know this but for those that don't if I ever do an engine swap, it will be a 4 rotor, not a 3. I don't feel I'm done with the 13b yet though.

Have you painted your hood yet?! And what about those new panels you were talking about?

Not yet. I need to do the manifold first as the exhaust leak is pretty terrible now. Everything will be painted all at once. I actually just picked up a Seibon carbon hatch this afternoon! I can pick it up with one hand and flip it over me.

Howard should be on the dyno in a few weeks hopefully..... Perhaps it would be best to wait and see his results. That might help make your decision for you.

Buy my Precision 6768. I'll have it out of the car by the end of the week, has approximately 3 KM's on it.

maxthe7man used to have a T51R in his FC. He was pretty impressed with the power and spool. It did have a BP, though.

The SPL has a bigger compressor then the KAI so it will make more power at the cost of spool but the turbines are the same.

The KAI has a 70.3mm inducer with a 94mm exducer for a compressor and the SPL has a 76.5 inducer with a 102.2mm exducer (in simple terms, the KAI is a 70.3mm compressor and the SPL is a 76.5mm compressor). Both the same turbine which is an 82mm inducer and 71.4mm exducer.

The GTX-4294R (or the GT4294R) have the same size 70.3mm compressor as the KAI but the turbine is slightly bigger having a turbine with a 82mm inducer and a 75.2mm exducer (I calculated the exducer and rounded up as I couldn't find the official number).

So basically the GTX-4294R is identical to the T51R KAI with the exception of the exducer on the turbine being slightly bigger. The GTX-4294R has a billet compressor wheel so it flows 10%+ more then its cast counter-part. Considering that, the divided turbine housing options being available, and the fact that it is cheaper, there is no reason to purchase the overpriced T51R KAI anymore.

And on a side note there is no Garrett turbo similar to the SPL, however the GTX-4202R is probably a better option if your considering the the SPL even though its slightly smaller, it can probably still outflow it and provide better response. So the same goes for the SPL.

Ok, back to my senses. Sticking with the original plan of an upgraded 6765.

Turbos have stupid names. How is a newbie like me suppose to understand what is better than another. All I know is 35R is common, a 500R pushes more, and then there is a **** load more.

They need a single turbo guide that lists them in order. Showing information like spool, peak HP, and all that ****.

Then I could select a turbo that best met my needs. 500HP and spools like the twins hehehe

That will be hard to put together as the same turbo will work differently on different cars. The 35R is a 62mm turbo and the 500R is a 67mm turbo. While A-Spec claims its the same response as a 35R, it is not the same, more like you don't mind the difference.
