So I Went for a Bike Ride this Morning

So I went for a bike ride this morning because I woke up in a good mood and the weather is half-decent and I haven't ridden a bike in a long time. Found the old bike somewhere in the garage, it was out of air. Found the air pump and pumped it up to 50 PSi. So I was ready to go.

So went out and after maybe 3 blocks my *** starts hurting. Ok whatever, it will go away. Kept going out some more, I'm out of breath, starting cruising. Held it a little longer and went further. Ok, now I'm tired and if I keep going i'm walking home. Putter back on the way home. So I get home, I'm out of breath, my legs feel like jelly walking down the stairs, and my head hurts. It was out for 10-15 minutes tops.

Been home all winter sitting at the comp. I got GG'd by the bike. More bike rides definitively to follow. Just felt like sharing.

In the winter I went out jogging with a buddy who is training because he is a professional fighter. Now granted I knew I should not be as good as him but I should still be decent enough.

The track was at a high school, and was 400 meters I think. My goal was to sprint the straights, and jog the corners.

Fat chance!!

After one lap my sprints turned in to jogs, and my corners morphed in to walking. Mucus was flying out of my nose, and flem was in the back of my throat. By lungs were BURNING badly for 3-4 hours afterwords. My ears were ringing because it was so damn cold out. I couldn't sleep because I was in so much pain!

I kind of no how you feel

This is what winter does to people. They get use to staying inside trying to huddle for warmth. The last thing they think about is trying to stay fit.

For those fortunate enough to live in condos and have the exercise rooms, they are a God sent. Granted, around the Xmas time it's tough to get a few days in for exercising.
Just the other week I tried to get back into the routine we set up during the summer months. I barely survived the tread mill. I usually run for 20min's with a 4 degree angle. Usually a nice swim in the pool follows. By the time I got into the pool, I could barely do 2 laps before my body was screaming at me to stop.
I barely got out and hopped into the jacuzzi. Tried to recover for the next 20min's in there.

When I went to get out and come back up, my legs were shaking, I was severely dehydrated, and I was a bit dizzy.

I gotta get back into the work out routine.

This is why I have a gym membership. I'm driving for 10 days or more at a time, 13 hours a day, so exercise is kind of out of the question while working. Having the gym membership drives me to go and get in a couple good days in a row before heading back to work. This paired with a slightly better diet on the road keeps me fairly light and I've got some decent muscle definition. It used to be I would get winded climbing one flight of stairs, now I spend 35 minutes on the stairmaster then do weights for an hour. I feel great.

Been trying to stay in shape too but even my employer moved our office so now I'm driving to work because it's double the distance and there's indoor parking so my only exercise is taking the stairs instead of the elevator but it's only 2 stories high lol
At least before even when I drove to work downtown I had to park a few blocks away for free parking so I had a 15 minutes walk in the morning/afternoon. It makes a HUGE difference not having that 30 minutes of walking daily.

Damn, there's a gym at this new location but what do you think happens, everyone finishes their shift at the same time so it's completely full in the afternoon. And during the week-end it's already bad enough that I have to work, when I'm done I don't want to "waste" another hour and a half in this god-forsaken place.

At least I have most shops (groceries, drug stores, etc) at walking/bike distance from home so in the summer or whenever it's noce out I walk to do my shopping.

But if I went jogging (I tried a while back) I'd be done after 5 minutes, and probably dead if I pushed it 5 extra minutes. Now, I can't be dead, that would suck. Same time happen when I was too optimistic on the bike last time I took it out. Gotta take it slowly.

Sorry for bringing back a 3 week old thread I had to share, too! (o;

I spend my free time in the gym at school. Don't lift weights, just play basketball.

Of course, I have to walk to the bus-stops to get to/from work. But that's like 4 minutes total a day.

Its that darn snow!

I bicycle to work and around town all winter, just have to put up with the rain on many days. This time of the year I put the bicycle away and fire up the motor bike. Then I get my exercise gardening and playing in the back country.

Just to rub in the west coast thing a little!!

At least the one thing we all have in common is we all get the run around by our politicians!!

my first bike ride in the spring is always brutal. I've been on about a dozen or so rides now and I have way more stamina than my first ride but still hardly any compared to what I used to have.

Winter sucks!

I'm on day 82 of snowboarding on Whistler Blackcomb mountains so far this season and have until June before I'll have to stop. I love the snow, and wish we had more of it! I feel for you guys without mountains to play on in the winter, not much point to snow if you can't use it.

I'm aiming to ride my bike to work (7 km one way) at least twice a week. Two weeks down and I'm on target!

Hey we have mountains here..... Well they're called mountains. Whether they actually classify as anything more than a small hill is up for debate.
