Need Microtech tuning help

Hey everyone, I need some help tuning my microtech - here's the story.

I have an '86 N/A that had a lot of electrical issues with the harness, so I decided to ditch everything and go Microtech LT10s, as (at the time) it had a lot of (then) local tuning support. I installed the system and had it tuned at a local shop in BC and it ran quite well - but there was still a noticeable hesitation at 3800rpm.

I had done some research and had come to the conclusion that it should have been tuned in Matrix mode - but wasn't. The plan then was to get another one of the local tuners to tune it in Matrix mode.... but then I blew the engine. The tune isn't what blew it though, as it seems I ingested something metal:

So I had a new engine built, and installed it with the microtech and its previous tune, but only got the car finished 24 hours before I loaded it on a train and moved to Ottawa - away from all the Mictrotech tuners in BC! The car starts and runs fine, but it's all a bit rough. It wont idle and it does hesitate. It really needs to have the tuning done for the new engine.

I have the laptop dongle/adapter and the software, so I can see what's going on but I have no idea what to do with it. So.... all that long story to ask Who can help me? I need to get it tuned in Matrix Mode.

Thanks!

Nick

Nick use the phone and have the Guys in Bc help you walk through their set up or try skype for an actual face to face , by the way the engine will work just fine with what was programmed into it last time just make sure you run your car for at least 1000km , with a inspection for overheating or oil leaks after 500km.Depending on what apex seals you used and how new everything is inside( Rotor housings new or used, cast plates lapped or not) it can take 3000 kms just to settle in. at the beginning constantly check for 14psi of vaccum and water or oil leaks then just let it run after awhile take it for short runs being gentle with the rpms at the beginning the more miles you put on the better it will run,I hope you installed a new sock on your fuel pump as well as and a new thermostat .......all the best .............Fp

Hey man, thanks for the reply.

The engine was broken in properly and now has 2200kms on it since the rebuild - and I did put on new fuel filters. There's no signs of overheating or leaks at all and while the "old" tune does work, it just doesn't work well. Now that it is broken in, I am anxious to get the proper tune done so I don't screw anything up.

Your idea of doing it over Skype or the phone is an interesting one - I'll have to look into it. If I am going to do that, I will need to learn more about the Microtech and Matrix Mode especially, as there is nothing more frustrating for a professional than someone who knows SFA trying to relay information.

Nick what porting( if any )do you have, or is the engine a stock rebuild ,also what did you use for injectors , and have you changed fuel pump(stock or upgraded) and in tank sock(filter).....do you have headers..... if so what size are they ,..............and are they joined together, if so how big is your exhaust pipe, plus what do you use for a muffler,or mufflers, any cats involved(stock or larger) what fuel do you use and have you touched the timing......

Have to checked timming ? , made sure its synced properly after the rebuild ? .

IT might be a few degrees off , if you haven't made sure its in sync ( by locking the timming ) .

are you able to open the software ? , post the idle table/map numbers ( you cant save a map = gay on microtech, but thats another subject ).

if using the matrix mode, you will have a table with idle and then 1000 rpm and up ( by 500 rpm increments ) . Post the numbers.

Also , what injectors are you using ? stock 460s or something different ?

Come on John, I'm sure there's room in Ottawa for at least one Microtech! I can take the place of your old Wolf.

Ok, here's the setup:

The engine has a street port.
Injectors are upgraded to 550cc.
The Fuel Pump is 1 year old.
The exhaust is Racing Beat with the stock manifold and a presilencer.

It's not that the tuning is missing one or two adjustments. Think of it this way - I have a base map on the car and need to have it tuned properly. The original tune wasn't done in Matrix mode, and always had a hesitation when the secondaries came in. I had planned to get it tuned "properly" but moved away from the Microtech guys before I could so now I need local help! And yes, I'm willing to pay for tuning time.

I have the dongle and cable so can hook the laptop up to the microtech and take some screen shots if necessary. What tables do you want to see, and under what conditions?
