Like the Sands in the Hourglass, so are the Days of the EvilStink
So, people are always asking me:
"Is your car going to be ready for Ottawa Meet?" It's been there only once in 3 years.
"How come you always drive your FB, if you have this fancy shmancy TII?"
"Why does your car never run? What's wrong with it now?"
Basically, it's the same thing every year. The last minute, mad rush to put my car back together after winter for the Ottawa Meet.
So, here is the current condition of my car:
The Wolf 3D is gone, but not forgotten, since it will live on in FC3S.USD's car. (Special thanks to Chris Ng for all his Wolf help over the past 3 years
)
Hello Haltech. Have to get used to life without a handcontroller.
Engine and Power Harness stripped and removed. Going to rewire electrical system with Stinger Audio Amp Kit. Also removing unused plugs n' ****!

Also need to install my FC1000 CDI, my newly mega riced-out coils, my dual alternator pulley, and bling gauge panel:

Haltech over the wolf? boooooo........
You're going to seriously miss the handcontroller...
I've actually been concidering changing standalones as well.. however there have been a few things to hold me back:
1) haltech - No hand controller.. I don't like the idea of having a laptop 90% of the time i'm out driving.. true, you can leave the laptop at home if you arn't tuning, but how long can you drive around and not play around with your maps and settings?? plus trying to tune by yourself with a laptop, while possible, is that much harder when you've got a whole twack of keys on the keyboard to accidently hit and laptop screen being barely visable in sunlight...
2) upgrade to wolf 4.0 ... concidered this route, since i can retain my handcontroller and most of my wireing.. however, lack of datalogging and the fact that it can't use the stock fc ignitors bother me...
3) I've even concidered microtech.. since it does have the handcontroller as well.. but i've read too many reports of people having trouble with the unit, and seeing a friend in town have trouble with his, has made me re-think going that route..
my ver 3.1 has done me fine.. it's not as refined as the other units, and the car will never cold idle on it's own very well.. but in a non daily driven car that sees less than 5000km a year, It will do
GO WOLF GO!
If it makes you feel any better abotu the state of your car.. my engine bay is currently empty.. .awaiting for a motor rebuild.. with any luck, I might actually be able to get it back on the road this season..
Best of luck with your new installs John! hopefully both our projects turn out for the best and we both end up making more power than that Ian guy

Laugh.. are you still trying to decide which clutch to buy ??
I have no doubt that the ebay XTD I purchased will probably not perform the ACT 6puck I had.. however, if it's enough to hold up to normal street driving and some abuse on the strip, It's definitly worth it.. I've read some comments from others on the forum who are using this clutch.. and most of them are favorable.. however, none of them were making near the power I was.. so I guess this will be a good test
...I'll tell ya one thing about the ACT heavy duty pressure plate that I won't miss... the workout that your leg gets when working the clutch pedal...

That is what finally swayed me. The new Wolf EMS and it didn't support trailing toggle!!!! I couldn't believe that! Total BS.

Tranny Pull
Well, nik and I pulled my tranny. Took a bit of extra time, since at first we decided we would be too lazy to remove the heatshields...we changed our minds after a while
So, the reason I had about 100% more pedal pressure, above my already stiff pedal from the ACT XPP, was the fact that the clutch fork pivot point (circled) had broken off inside the bellhousing. So, the fork could not move back and forth at all, and I couldn't shift gears unless I did some serious stomping...
J-spec tranny getting installed soon

J-spec tranny getting installed soon
hehe.. I had the same thing happen to me after i installed the ACT HD pressure plate.. pivot ball snapped.. after replacing the pivot ball, the release fork cracked ... We ended up taking the tranny out about 4 times last season.. it was no fun .. but we got real good at it!
... Save yourself alot fo time and headaches.. if you are going to be doing your clutch, go ahead and replace the pivot ball and the fork.. they arn't that expensive from mazda (I belive about $30 for the fork) .. especially if you're going with a heavier duty pressur plate..

Some BLing BLing
On the smooth sanded pieces, the chrome powdercoat looks pretty damm nice. On the manifold it looks good, but not as good as sanding and polishing. But, I couldn't take that away from Ian...

It was 70 bucks per manifold. The little pieces a lot less.
Heat resistance wise, powdercoat is fine for intake manifolds and such.
