Got in another accident....

Some of you will remember me telling the story of me getting side swiped by a dump truck on the highway. Since then I've gotten it fixed up real nice thanks to Joe at Classic Auto.

..well, this past monday evening, as I was going home from work, I got into another accident. A much deadlier one.

I was going north on Hwy 404, I took the Elgin Mills Rd exit, and came to a stop at the intersection. I was in the left lane waiting to make a left turn. The elgin mills traffic came to a stop when their lights turned red, and promptly after my lights turned green. So I begin moving to take my turn. As soon as I make it into the middle of the intersection, I see a black car come speeding my way on elgin mills... I try to react by gassing it, but it was too late..

The dude hit me hard, dead on, right in the driver's side door, crushing the entire side, my car gets rammed a good handful of meters, apparently the dude beside me (also making a left turn) got clipped a little bit as well. I'm shook up, door is crushed into me, shattered glass everywhere, engine is revving without my foot on the pedal anymore, I realize quickly what just happened and discovered I was alive and didn't feel any overwhelming pain. I shut off the engine, the other drive comes running to my window and asked if I'm okay, I groaned and moaned a reply as I took off my seatbelt and crawled out the passenger side door without aid.

Luckily a tow-truck driver was parked there and witnessed the whole thing, he came running to make sure I was okay, and promptly contacted emergency services. As the adrenaline was dying down, the pain came into play.. I'm now in a small world of hurt.

Long story short, my FC is a write off, at least that's what everyone's telling me, the guy who hit me gave me a million and one excuses, but it's clear as day, he ran a red light, and was going fast (tow-truck guy estimated 60-70 kph). The cops arrive to take care of everything, paramedics looked after me (i was the only one injured). Went to the ER afterwards and X-rays show no broken bones, but my ribs and surrounding muscles are severely wounded, as well as my hip and thigh. It now hurts pretty much anything I do except when I'm sitting still or laying down (so sleeping is easy and painless).

I am truely thankful to be alive, someone must have been watching over me... the towers, police, EMR staff, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, they all said I was very lucky to be able to walk away from such a hard hit.

This week I will be going through the trouble of dealing with insurance, but this time I'm injured, and my RX-7 isn't coming back all shiney and new-looking.

Good to hear you are battered and bruised but not permanetly broken!
Here's hoping the insurance company doesn't give you too hard of a time.
Use that money for an FD!

Jesus!
Nobody can say the RX-7 can't take a hit! You're extremely lucky. It could've been much worse.
Good to hear you're alright. You can deal with the aftermath when you're back to full health.

Damn - it doesn't get too much more direct than that, and it's a good thing there were witnesses!

Glad you escaped basically unscathed though - that's the most important thing.

Good luck with the insurance, hope they don't screw you around!

Well, since you are still alive, I would like to point out that this crash was equally as deadly as your last one.

As I suggest to everyone: Take a good motorcyle training course, even if you don't want a bike. You learn to treat all other drivers like they are trying to kill you, and it makes a big difference.

Glad you're alright.

first thing you should be doing is finding a lawyer .
your better to do it soon than to do the "lets see what they offer.
you were hurt and who knows what kind of problems you will have in the future!
someone I know thought he would deal with the insurance people himself
and its been months, he has no car yet and is still in pain.
got the lawyer later than sooner and things are just now starting to happen.
they seem to deal with things much faster when a lawyer is working for you.
just my 2 cents
Matt

Dam Crap ****!! If it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.
Except for the fact that you are still alive. After being almost rubbed out by a Dumb Truck
and then get almost wiped off the planet by a Dumb Fu_K! All that in the same driving season.
Glad to hear you are Ok!!!!
Good LUCK dealing with the insurance.

*WOW*

Yeah, this time I doubt it'll be getting a face lift Important thing is you're OK (more or less....)

I'd say thats some luck you've got, but things could be far worse. Its a pretty mean streak of accidents you've had though - can only get better from here.

Take care, if you need anything (info on last repairs or anything for the insurance company) let me know Mark - take it easy...

Wow that sucks hardcore. Glad you're okay though... too bad it had to be an S5 Turbo, as if those aren't hard enough to even see on the roads.

damn man!
i can't believe some drivers...i feel bad for you and your car!

glad to hear you are still in one piece, pretty good considering the direct hit right on your door.

i hope everything works out with insurance...sounds like the other guy just straight up ran into you.
what might be more complicated is keeping your insurance rates down.

Good thing you are okay, the Richmond Hill area is notorious for Red light runners, my friend got hit on 16th / young, just 2 weeks ago similar scenario.

Stupid CL ruined a gorgeous FC

As for the Lawyer and claims, just some inside information for you..
MAKE SURE THAT WHATEVER YOU WILL CLAIM (INJURY WISE) YOU ARE ACTUALLY INJURED (OR CAN PLAY THE ROLE OF), INSURANCE COMPANIES PAY BIG $$$ TO FIND THE SCAMMERS (MY JOB ). THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO FOLLOW YOU FOR UP TO 5 YEARS AFTER THE CLAIM IS MADE, AND IF IT WILL COST THEM 10% LESS THEN YOUR PAYOUT TO DISPROVE YOUR CLAIM THEY WILL SO JUST BE CAUTIOUS WITH WHAT YOU CLAIM.

Son of a bitch....

That is a serious accident. Glad you're OK, or at least not totally injured.

I hope the jackass who caused it is charged accordingly, and depending on how much of your life you want to waste on this mess, he should be sued as well to cover all future medical expenses AND the expense of building another car you will care about as much as the RX-7.

Thanks for the concern and well wishes guys.

The pain isn't getting any better. I've gone for chest and spine x-rays and nothing is broken, but the doc said my spine shifted a bit and is concerned about long-term effects. He also wants me to get an MRI but is seeking a 2nd opinion from a colleague of his (whome I'm supposed to see tomorrow).

The insurance claims adjuster hasn't contacted me yet. I was supposed get a call yesterday from them, but by evening time they hadn't called so I called them to inquire. They said they would send out the order again and hopefully someone will call me today (it's afternoon and still no call).

My boss is looking for a lawyer for me, I will speak to the lawyer about what I can be compensated for, what I can fight for, etc..

Thanks for all the advice too guys, I really appreciate it.

I am just so damn glad I am able to sit here at the computer and communicate, I can move around and do things, I just can't flex or tense my back muscles (that limits my movement and activites), which brings a whole lot of pain and I'll wince and make all sorts of funny faces and say all sorts of unsavory things. lol

Sigh...the car... well, at this point I'm not sure what to do with it.. my friends have gone through the options with me. My insurance company will offer x amount of money for it, and I can buy it back for y amount. Then I can either sell the whole thing, part it out, or buy a shell and drop my motor and whatever usable parts into the new car.

You know, I LOVE RX-7's.. but after such an experience, is it wrong for me to consider another car with side-airbags?

......

Thanks again guys.

Mark

Not at all, but consider all your options first.

An FC or FD with a couple custom side impact absorbers??
