car is alive and on the road. I bailed on the vmount for now, it was taking too long and i still needed parts. i'll get back to it once I've collected everything else i need.
refinishing wheels is way way way too much work. wow. never doing that again. pretty happy with the outcome though. the wheels are Riken RTWs, and they are period correct (from the mid 80s, they were apparently a dealer option on 86 saleen mustangs and some 300zx models)
the car is driving great. new tires are incredible (Bridgestone Potenza RE-71Rs), and with the new crossmember, the transmission doesn't sound like it's trying to kill itself any more.

^^ lol, it's not like 1000s are really 'big' nowadays in these engines. i'll definitely need more fuel pump to really take advantage of these though
work on the car this winter has been slow but steady
got some new HSD coilovers and cleaned up everything on the suspension.
por-15'd the knuckles. new bushings everywhere, new tie rod ends, new ball joints, new bearings, etc... also scrubbed the crap out of the wheel wells
dropped the whole crusty old rear subframe
underestimated the amount of work and parts it takes to make the rear suspension 'proper' when lowering the car. ended up buying parts shop max camber links, subframe arm, trailing arm spherical bearings, toe-steer eliminator bushings, and trailing arm solid upper bushings
everything cleaned up pretty well
axles look almost like new!
that's pretty much where it sits now. i still need to press in the new rear wheel bearings and the trailing arm spherical bearings, then slap everything back together. should feel slightly different than all the old crusty broken stuff did

quite a bit of work over the winter, but apparently I didn't take many photos. still a few things to finish up before it's back on the road
-FFE hall sensor trigger wheel
-RX-8 Cloth seats (drivers seat done, still need to finish passenger side brackets)
-FD upper intake manifold, throttle body, etc
-Vmount and all related bits

What V-mount setup are you running? I love the placement of the overflow tank. I have constant issues with mine since I have it hidden under my rad panel, so it frequently overflows after hard driving lol

vmount is unknown brand parts that I picked up a couple years ago. came off a race car originally with a full tube front end.
the tank needs to be the highest point in the system, doesn't it? mine ended up being about 1-2cm too high actually, i had to trim the hood ribbing for the hood to close flat

updates! over the winter I installed a minty fresh s5 turbo and a full new fuel system. AEM 340 pump, all AN6 PTFE lines, parallel fuel rails, AEM pressure regulator, etc..
also started fitting things for dual rx8 oil coolers. with the current setup the stock oil cooler is basically an air pre-heater for the v-mount, so going to the dual side coolers should let the rad and intercooler each get cooler air. still need to get a few parts to finish that at some point this year but the rx8 coolers damn near bolt into place once you've made some room (like relocating the windshield washer reservoir)
