distr0's 87 Arctic Silver rx7

So, I suppose this car needs a thread, and I need a place to lay out some plans

FIRST, a pic dump: (excuse the mess of the garage, we just moved in recently)

turbo setup, etc all waiting

Plans for the car - stage 1 (over the next month or 2)

Stage 1 is going to be basically making the car work in close-to-stock form (minus emissions crap, unneccessary systems)

- remove damn near everything - engine, trans (obviously, auto), blue interior, rear subframe w/ dif, etc, brakes, steering, emissions, blah, blah....

- install t2 drivetrain (trans, driveshaft, dif, axles, hubs, brakes), some sort of engine (probably just a n/a s4 13b right now), t2 black interior, t2 front brakes and 5-bolt hubs

- also, major cleaning, degreasing, fix any rust that might be found

Stage 2 (some point this year)

Once the car is running to my liking in stock form, the car will be converted to run on megasquirt

Stage 3 (next winter)

once all necessary parts are collected, boost will be applied - stock s5 t2 setup

That's pretty much the plan so far, at least what I can remember off the top of my head... probably forgetting some things!

Cool project and welcome to the forum. That car looks to be in good cosmetic shape. How long have you had it?

its in great shape... almost 0 rust. worst ive found is a little bubble on the drivers side rear wheel arch.

i've only had the car a couple weeks

Bwek 03-17-11 03:50 PM

Car was on Kijiji you must've got it for real cheap, and it was already a good price minus the auto part

djphonics 03-17-11 04:23 PM

it looks so similar to mine, welcome to the club. hope to see you around.

out of curiosity, how's the paint on it?

distr0 03-17-11 05:42 PM

paint is excellent on most of the car.... front bumper is scratched, and the hood has a nice dent/scratches in it

Mr.Cool 03-17-11 07:44 PM

wow! lota gas cans, good luck with the car, should be fun.

Nice big garage i envy you

distr0 03-19-11 08:58 PM

Garage was actually a woodshop before we moved in (month and a half ago), its been a ton of work getting it to the current condition, and its still far from where I want it to be

Removed 1.1 tonnes of garbage (knocked down walls, removed shelves, etc)

Bwek 03-19-11 09:46 PM

where abouts are you in ontario? For some reason when i saw it initially i thought wood shop lol

distr0 03-19-11 09:54 PM

i'm in st. george, small town south of cambridge, north of brantford

distr0 03-23-11 08:58 AM

all fluids drained (dam, auto transmisions are a PITA and make a huge mess)

engine is mostly striped now

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_o...0/IMG_4242.JPG

heatshields all removed

interior mostly removed. found a bit of a pickle here. angle of drivers floor vs passenger floor. looks like the car was dropped on a jack on the frame or something

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_o...0/IMG_4247.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_o...0/IMG_4251.JPG

hopefully a hammer and 2x4 will convince it to straighten back out. anyone had this happen before??

CS13B 03-23-11 10:37 AM

If your manifold heat shields are too rusted do you want another set? I have a new OEM set that I'm selling!

distr0 03-23-11 10:52 AM

lol, thanks but no, mine are fine

CS13B 03-23-11 11:52 AM

Are you sure? I cant sell these damn things

Bwek 03-23-11 04:03 PM

^^^ that's cause they aren't worth anything lol most people take them off and leave them off lol

Good progress man

You should be able to pound the floor out, that's right where the u channel runs under the car someone must of thought it was a good jack point

dash and doorcard out... apparently the car was pre-wired for power windows?! i plugged in a motor and a switch, and it works. not sure if that's normal or not? either way, saves me a bunch of trouble

Bwek 03-28-11 03:45 PM

I believe the car is prewired for any and all options from the factory

distr0 03-30-11 12:45 AM

collected some stuffs!

distr0 04-02-11 10:11 AM

trans is out, motor is ready to pull but still sitting in the engine bay

auto vs t2 manual - different mount locations, need to weld mounts in from a manual car

Should be able to make a crossmember to close the ~3" difference that doesn't flex.

distr0 04-05-11 11:31 AM

few little things done recently, front brakes removed, other small bits ripped out

tested a motor that's sat for 6 years under a tarp, seems to still have good compression so hoepfully it'll be good to drop in and drive this year. next winter i'll build a motor right
