ON boost issues?

Hello all,

So my 7 just developed a new problem. I dont have a boost gauge so I cant check boost. The car is slow as a dog now and when I go to accelerate it sounds like a whining noise(maybe dead turbo?) and the car goes nowhere. Also since that happened at idle the car bounces around 400-750 rpm surging. At idle the car is very rich. The stock fuel pressure gauge reads almost zero at idle as well.

Are these symptoms of a bad turbo? or possibly a blown rotor?

I should note that the car runs fine under driving conditions except when trying to boost it sounds like the turbo winds extremely high, extremely fast, but the car goes nowhere and I still hear the sound of the recircs.

any ideas?

What year RX-7 is this? I thought you had an FD but they don't have stock fuel pressure gauges so I am confused (unless you meant oil pressure). Anyway, It sounds to me like a burst hose or a coupler that popped off or cracked. Check the lower intercooler hose for a hairline crack ( you will have to remove it and squeez the hose since the cracks are very hard to notice) or the y-pipe couplers as they dry out and crack.

oops. I meant to say oil pressure. Ill check for that. Only reason I thought it may be something else is because the turbo doesnt sound healthy either. I know the stock gauge isnt reliable but at idle when its running like crap oil pressure is almost 0 yet while driving there is pressure. I should add when i try to boost the car falls on its face and is actually slower then with boost.

If the stock twins were blown that could drop oil pressure but would it make the gauge read almost zero and make the idle completely messed?

Lol. This car is not being friendly, looks like she is going to be parked for another month Last night driving home I hit an animal and just noticed a pinhole in my rad this morning

The stock oil gauges oten read 0 when at idle.

The sound you are hearing can be the 10 PSI of air gushing out of a torn pipe, tube or coupler.

Your bad idle and the fact that it slows down when you get into boost also makes me think you should take a look at your MAP sensor and make sure the hose did not pop off.

When you have a lack of power (lack of boost) 9 times our of 10 you have a leak, if you have a pattern issues I.E. you have 8 psi on the first turbo and then 4 on the second then it is usually a solenoid issue or rats nest issue.

I would also recomend investing in a boost gauge, Makes figuring out issues a bit easier.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help. Trying to help with issues over the internet is a bit like trying to perform surgery when blindfolded.

Good luck with finding the problem and hopefully others can chime in with ideas.

Also here is a link to show what to look for with the torn lower intercooler hose..

Looking around I found map sensor vaccuum line popped off.. after fixing that the idle is much better but car is still a dog. Im not sure if the secondary turbo is even kicking in. Im going to check for boost leaks then maybe look at a problem in the rats nest maybe?

Could be a hundred different issues when boost problems arise with a FD, I think you have my number...give me a shout if you can't resolve it.
