Whats really wearing me down is not getting anything done. Its 100% decided anyway. Next week ill be hiring a van and bringing all my gear and the seven home. Im fed up to the back teeth of hiring garages with unknowns. Its brought me (and joel) nothing but strife.

Im hoping that ill find something before winter but the main focus is getting myself into a position where i can work on the seven.

As a relatively young man, i wonder if its constant situations like this that will eventally turn me into more of a bitter, moany old git than what i already am =p

No need to wonder, the answer is yes.
Being bitter, moany and old is not a totally bad thing though, it's basically Arizona's business model.

well gentlemen it is comforting to know im not on my own in that respect. at the moment im pretty convinced that even though having no garage will make things more awkward for me, it will be simpler and cheaper in the long run to not have any other bugger be able to throw a spanner in the works.

Oh man..

I take a break from the forum for a few months, so I can play with motorcycles and race Subarus in what pitiful summer we get in northern canada and I come back to an epic tale. You start having all sorts of babies, get your stuff seized by the scary Swedish board of shadowy figures, refurbish a machine that is bigger than my whole town, become a grumpy old man.. And you STILL have no wheels ha ha..

All par for the course for everybody's favorite Swedish Brit. (British Swede?)

How you doing, buddy?

I believe the correct nomenclature is swenglishman..... or swedophile i dont remember which..

today i hired a van and me and joel took all my stuff out of the garage. i didnt have that much now that the rx7 is more or less together. basicly my "stuff" consisted of a nissan rb26dett in lots of bits and a gearbox that weighed a frigggin tonne amongst other expensive junk. (it felt like it anyway).

i was a bit worried that as per my usual luck, the seven wouldnt start. i turned the key and... well poo in my pocket and call me stephanie, she started! i promptly went about driving home. the first half click was worrying on the grounds of the copious amounts of white smoke coming out of the exhaust but they trailed off to an acceptable level. because i have not sorted her out yet, she ran eye-wateringly rich and of course played up as soon as i hit 3800 rpm but she puttered all the way home and is now "sitting pretty" (höhö) on my driveway.

its a real relief to have her there because to be honest all this garage crap was stressing me out. now im a literal shade tree mechanic! yay? it feels like i have left it long enough since the last time i goaded robban about my wheels so ill ask him tomorrow.

i was thinking more cattle prod

jus' kidding. despite the amount of people that i have praised on this thread and subsequently been eff'd over by, robban is actually a very kind and good natured workaholic. i heard through the grapevine that hes back at work so im sure he's done something.

I did not know grapes grew in Sweden.

Being mid-August, it's almost time to mount the tank treads and steering skis, so Robban has another eleven months or so before you'll need wheels anyway.

Arr this we all know to be true me hearty it also means that in a couple weeks ill be 34 years old and will have owned the mazda for exactly 3 years! crazy...

i spoke to robban yesterday and he said that he should have everything aligned and tacked in place next week so that i can at least get an idea of how the finished product will look. i got a really good price on the cylinders too! apparently robbans welder dude was a bit ashamed that it took so long and i geuss that was his way of apologising.

i wanted to get two things yesterday, something to seal off the extra pipe coming out of the header that opens the auxiliary ports, (im pretty sure thats why there is so much fumes coming into the coupe) and some new injector connectors to the secondaries. the ones i have now are battered beyond repair.

the pipe was an easy fix, i went to a screw/bolt shop and found a kind of extension thingy that worked perfectly and doesnt look out of place.

the contacts were a different story however.
i know that these types of contact are also used on other cars and i was hoping that volvo is one of them in my usual attempts to avoid having to order from overseas. i just cant work out whether they are bosch ev1 or ev6. im gonna have to get the noid light set out of the cellar to check. apparrently the mazda miata has the same ones and thats a very common car so hopefully mazda has them in stock! now all i have to do is see if i can find my multimeter amongst the boxes full of assorted crap in the cellar so that i can start looking for the cause of the problem.

its really nice to have the seven so close!

right. found a place in stockholm where i can buy some replacement injector plugs here

i was having a little look at mine just now to double check and when i looked closely into the holes in the plug that connect to the injectors, i noticed that there was a metal piece missing. im wondering if this could be the root of the problem. not going to get my hopes up though. the proof is always in the pudding..

got kicked out of bed early by the little one and once she fell asleep again i jumped in my trusty micra (which is honestly starting to the strain from my abuse) and scooted off down to the parts store. well, more like crawled. the combination of a overturned articulated lorry and blowing up mountain with dynamite on one of the busiest motorways in sweden, (the E4) i spent most of the morning sitting in unnessecary traffic. i realised that since moving from the garage, i needed to stock up on some tools so today turned out to fairly expensive too.

i went and got the injector plugs from raidopower (whom i must say were very helpful and friendly) and got cracking. since ive been having all kinds of wierdness going on with the injectors i changed all four. i was racing against the clock and the looming storm so i didnt get to take much pictures. these are the ones i did. i warn its not the prettiest work in the world but it should do the job...

joel swung by after work to wait the traffic out and did the secondaries while i was busy removing the intake manifold. it took the edge off of my phobia of electronics to see how easy it was. he had to shoot so i cracked on as the skies grew darker and my fatherly duties beckoned.. with about 15 minuites left when i was finished, i started her up and she revved up to 7000 with what seemed lke ease. the rain had started so i took a quick roll down to the bottom of the road and back. there is a noticeable improvement and the secondaries are definately kicking in now! she was still a teensy bit bucky and it seemed like she went a little lean around 5000 but i cant know for sure if it was just because she was cold.

i took a quick video with my phone. in my haste i was a naughty boy and revved her up a few times while cold. perhaps not the most adviseable thing to do with a newly renovated engine but i couldnt help myself.

im feeling right chuffed today

i took her out on the motorway this morning to see how she behaves when she's warm. theres a noticeable improvement but when i push the pedal down hard she gets up to 4-5000 then falls flat on her face. i find it strange that it happens later than 3800 now. i wonder if that means something? only by pressing down the pedal slightly can i continue up to the higher revs. definately running rich as well. my clothes stink from just that little run.

so, not there yet. at least those cursed injector plugs have been changed out and i can continue my investigations. today im going to help a buddy work on his house but tomorrow ill get on it again.

today im going to have to sort out my daily driver. the rear muffler rusted off, giving the micra a very farty, sporty sound. itll be fun replacing that without a garage but oh well. such is life..

today i got a very pleasant text message with a couple of pictures in them.

thanks clokker! i agree with you completely they're lovely! we shall see how long the other stages of completion will take..

i was thinking 255/40/17 and 215/40/17. it wont be anything over the top im pretty much taking the same dimensions from the two other cars i found with the same wheel sizes.

polished mini moons. i can dig it
im definately leaning towards powdercoat black but im afraid that it will end up being TOO black and camouflage the dish effect. i kinda like them the way they look now actually but that steel would rust before you can say "iron oxide".

as mentioned earlier i had pulled my injectors this afternoon and had a little look for a company that does injector service here in stockholm. i found a fella on a forum that said he was doing injector testing and cleaning for 'hobby prices' and in his signature it said 'wankelfantast'. i gave him a call and he said that i could come over this evening. he lives about 25 minuites drive a way so i went over.

when i pulled up outside the first thing i saw was an FB sitting outside. turns out he's proper into rotary engines and hasnt driven anything else (except for daily drivers) for the last 20 years. of course we had loads to talk about! while we were doing that he tested my injectors. turns out that one of my secondaries was completely dead and the other one was writing its last will and testament. he gave them a 20 minuite ultrasound clean (im pretty sure he said he usually cleans them for four hours) but there was no improvement whatsoever. he said he probably had some in his garage which he would be going to tomorrow and he said that he'd have a root around and see if he could find a couple for me.

the man was an absolute diamond. not only was he friendly and interesting to talk to, but he took only half price for the test and even loaned me a couple 550cc injectors (purples) to pop in until he got a hold of some other ones! he changed the rubber on them too! he said that because i have ported my 13b, i should technically have slightly bigger injectors on the secondaries anyway.

i have a heap of non-13b related stuff to do tomorrow so im going to have to get up early if i want to find out if this particular issue is solved. i would have done it tonite but i couldnt find my good headlamp. im as eager as a beaver on heat right now hehe

got up early this morning. 7am is early when your on vacation/unemployed and popped in the injectors. this time it was a big difference. she works! drove her around for a half an hour and she goes through the entire rev range without any funky stuff happening. finally. so it appears that faulty injectors have been the main culprit the whole time.

she seems to run rich as hell at the mo. my clothes positively reeked after the drive. i noticed that the 'long nut' that i used to seal off the pipe coming out of the headers has fallen off so ill have to try and get a better fit. it also should explain the large amounts of exhaust coming into the coupe. now i could actually drive to sifverts skruv and get the exact thread that fits onto it.

i have had the feeling of progress a lot since i have had her closer to home and now i can actually consider what to do next.

here are a few of the things i want to do..

im going to check with a couple of fellas i know to see if i can pass by their garage and check my emissions to see if i can do some fine tuning.

she idles at 2000rpm right now ill have to check the timing again and the tps?

i need to do four wheel alignment and adjust the height on my coilovers since i havent done it yet and there is a huge gap between the front wheels and the wheel housing where as the rears are tucked resulting in a rather silly stance.

ill be leaving the cosmetical stuff until im satisfied with the overall function of das seven

i want to put her through a safety test as soon as possible so that i can then get my front windscreen done on the insurance. it would be a bit transparent to claim on a car that hasnt rolled for two years

now that the current work on the steelies is up to robban, the tempo has increased formidably. i got another pic today from him.

this is one of the fronts that he has spot welded. i just cant get enough of looking at these things!

Thanks for your friendly words...
I actually found a set of injectors at my garage, and I'll give them a run in my little testing rig to find out if they are okay!
I will give you a call when I know...

PS. I actually have a tread here at rx7club... The problem is that I have been away from the garage for about two years. I had a heart attack and surgery on my spine, but now I am fit for fight again! Here it is: https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-o...-75-a-1012037/

cheers lars! ill have to drive her over to you so that you can have a look and point out all the horrible mistakes i have made haha =P

loved your project it will be fun to see how it goes!

i drove her into the city today and she runs ok but im convinced that there is some fine tuning to be done. this is what brings me to my next hurdle. i have been so focused on just getting her running, i havent really considered how im going to get her to run nicely. a wideband lamda has been suggested to me and im wondering how far i should go.

choice one. wideband lamda and tuning that the seven allows?

choice two. wideband lamda and an apexi safc ii.

if choice one is at all feasible i would go for that because my bank is already broken and i think my brain would explode from the whole process of installation and tuning that the safc would entail.

right. i thought id go out and have a look at the timing this afternoon but she flooded instantly so i have spent the most part of the afternoon reading up about piggyback systems.

as far as i understand im going to need a wideband o2 sensor kit and a piggyback system.

an apexi safc ii on ebay would run me about 1500kr or so and an innovate wideband 02 sensor would be about the same. a total of 3000kr. (from what i have read this is good stuff)

i have a couple questions i couldnt really find straightforward answers to. are those two all i would need? is it worth it? and should i be able to tune it myself using this?

sorry for the hundred questions but my searching isnt really giving me good results..

thanks in advance for any help on this one people
