Just FYI...Mitsubishi uses a dual port banjo fitting essentially identical to that Mazda part on several of their 90's SUV/trucks. Probably easier to find for the junkyard rat such as I.

BTW, I think your rebent hardlines look a lot better than mine, that's harder to do well than one would think. It's easy enough to get the fittings aligned, getting the tube straight and crisp is the difficult part.
And trying to keep the green coating intact, just sheer luck.

haha, thanks. I found out when I took my original ABS lines out that stock brake lines are damn near impossible to kink, so I just went to town. I ended up using one of the original short lines and one of the lines from the 929

Also: while I had the engine apart I gutted the internal OMP pump gear stuff. I'm going to try to tap into that hole to create another crankcase vent (on the opposite side as the filler neck vent I already have).

I just ordered a rising RPM OMP block off to replace the one I have because it's nice and thick. I'll just drill a big hole in it and put a NPT -> -10 AN fitting in it. We'll see how well it goes.

Very cool. how do you plan on breaking in the engine?

I have a question regarding your Megasquirt. I have made it a habit to boot up the laptop every time I go out. I use the autotune feature. My problem is on a hot day it seems to pull fuel, and on cool days its adding fuel. Is there a setting on the Megasquirt to compensate for these ambient temp swings? I'm going to keep searching but I don't have the correct keywords yet.

The autocross is in virginia beach lol, which google maps says is ~ 250 miles away. Mazdaspeed says engine brake in takes 300 miles... so I should be fine . I'll probably bring some oil down and change the oil when I get there.

as for the megasquirt, There should be a trim table somewhere that changes the fuel table depending on IAT. I'm not sure where it is, I'll boot the laptop up later today to see if I can find it. you do have your thermistor tables configured right?

Tried to start it but my battery didn't have enough juice in it... I'll charge it overnight and try again in the morning. *fingers crossed*

Are you running dual oil coolers? I found a local one on craigslist for $30. I'm half tempted to pick it up. I have heard it will be beneficial for the track..

no, but I plan to before I go back to the track. even the N/A guys who seriously track their cars have found they need 2 oil coolers, it's a no brainer for a turbo. most of my oil temp issues were probably due to bad oil cooler placement, I'll be moving the one I have to in front of the radiator when I get the second.

Here is a guy that did it on his N/A race car:

Hmmm I'll definitely have to grab the one on craigslist then! I'll have to pass for this track day and just be a hawk on the temp gauges.

I had an issue with too much fuel getting mine to start. I unplugged the CAS and cranked for a good minute with all four plugs out. then torched the plugs to dry them off. after that it started right up for me.

me and my brother stopped by my house at lunch and he helped me push start it. and it started right up! let it idle for about a half an hour then drove it about a mile or 2. So far it runs great.


not sure what the high pitched whistle is in the video, it wasn't there in real life

Weekend recap:

The car ran as well as I could have hoped. The drive down to VA beach was pretty uneventful, except for the crazy 95S traffic. took me about 5.5 hours. The car failed to start once at a gas station, but I think that's because I left my lights on while debugging some trailer light issues... got a push start from some nice guys and was on my way.

Oil temps were between 220 and 250*F just cruising on the highway which is pretty high... I definitely need to move/duct my oil cooler and add a second one...

The site was awesome. It's a concrete Navy hovercraft launching pad:





cars a bit more rolly than I thought it was:


that's with 600 lb front springs and a 27mm sway bar... I might need to up the front spring rate, and definitely need to add back the camber I took out...

Here are some videos, my driving wasn't great.... driving my corolla always messes me up when I get back into the RX7...

The way home wasn't quite as smooth.... on the second day right before my runs my radiator fan decided it wasn't turning on anymore. I haven't debugged it yet, but hopefully it's just a bad relay. I just bypassed the relay and ran the fan on all the time for the rest of my runs and all the way home...

when I was about 30 minutes from my house the car developed an exhaust leak which killed the turbo response.... hopefully this is just a loose nut before the turbo, but I have a feeling I lost part of a gasket.... the car now only boosts to like 4-5 psi at full throttle. looks like the turbo is probably coming out again

That pad thing is crazy cool....I would be a bit freaked out about the water being right there though.

very cool videos and pictures! i always forget to record mine when I go out for rides...

Took off my oil cooler lines this morning to send back to rotary extreme. He's making good on his design and making a kit to move the oil cooler to the front of the radiator.

It's a pretty amazing site.

The water isn't nearly as close as it looks. probably at least 50 feet off the course line. Here is a picture I took from the back slalom:

Our builds are very similar! (engine that is)

Are you planning on a larger turbo in the future? My next turbo will definitely be ball bearing.
