Sorry yes that was a brain fart. Lance @ Freelance Motorsports said for my power output (hybrid turbo, ~350whp max) that the stock bearings are fine. FD stat gears do drop it to place I believe....dont quote me on that though, I'm not assembling the engine! haha.

a reliability mod since the car sees track time would be race clearancing the rotors since there will be more high-rpm use than a street car.

It's very easy to go overboard while building a new engine.....

Here is where I'm at:

score isn't too bad, but still need a new one...

Here is what the build currently looks like:
9.7:1 S5 N/A Rotors w/ competition bearings
RX-8 Stationary gears
RX-8 e-shaft
pineapple racing medium street port + exhaust port
pineapple racing HD water seals
OEM mazda apex seals
FD oil pressure regulator

went to harbor frieght the other day and got a 20 gallon parts washer... let the cleaning begin!

Rob at Pineapple is a fantastic go-to guy for any build. I have never had a reason to work with anyone else...

Just call him to discuss his oiling upgrades. He may have improved them with new ideas since he built my engines (maybe RX-8 stuff IDK). Previously a lot of it was to update the FC stuff to FD. I cant recall the details honestly.

If you are working with him, have him balance the rotating assembly for you at the same time. I can ship those rotors to his shop if you want.

Just sent you a PM on that....before I saw you were going RX-8 e-shaft. I can still include the counter weight if you want. Also negotiable on my price.

I just had a half an hour conversation with Rob, he's super nice and helpful.

RX8 stat gears are almost the same as the FD stuff, but they costs way less money.

I don't need the counter weight, they're replacing S5 TII rotors so they'll be fine.

sent you a PM

Update:

I've been slacking a bit.... I still have no S5 NA rotors (the set I'm trying to by was delayed by the seller going out of town... )

my package of goodies from mazda motorsports and pineapple racing came

in addition to the above it'll have:
FD corner seal springs
FD side seal springs
competition outer oil control ring springs

I might throw the larger front thrust bearing assembly from an FD on it, but I have to see if I can get it balanced locally first (you have to re balance it because you have to use an FD or RX8 front counter weight for the larger bearings.)

I also have to get the RX-8 rear stationary gear machined to have an o-ring groove in it.

This engine will not be ready in time for this weekend's pro-solo

I'll be co-driving my brother's S2000 CR in STR.

Engine build has slowed down.... mainly due to getting dicked around by people selling S5 NA rotors *not amused*

I did get a FD front counter weight and a bunch of other stuff to make the front thrust bearings a bit bigger:

I talked to some people and you don't have to rebalance anything if you use the FD front counter weight... since the FD rotors weigh the same as S5 rotors and use the same rear automatic counter weight.

I don't see why it would need balanced because most turbo setups aren't going to flow that high like an NA would need.

I'm attempting to make my engine rev pretty high (~9k...+?) so I never have to shift out of second or hit my rev limiter during an autocross. I don't really care if I don't make much power up there, it's better than hitting your rev limiter

I have to say; you've done a nice job on your car. The wide-body looks great. Hope things go smooth for the rebuild.

Depending on your port and turbo you might make more power than you think up in the nose bleeds

Oops! I forgot about the autocross thing. My engine will have rotors race clearanced since NJMP will keep me in high third gear often so I wanted some peace of mind. I'll have to try and catch up at an autocross with you sometime I have a buddy near baltimore with a miata who does a lot of autocross. It's very possible youve seen him somewhere.

I did order order something exciting though... I'll wait to update this till they're here though...

I autocrossed the corolla again last weekend. only got 2 runs, one of which was soaking wet...

Here is my only dry run... it's not pretty, but it got my 1st in SSM (beat a 300hp FB on hoosiers)

Are you assembling the motor yourself? I saw Lance post that photo a week or two ago. All four yours?! They look great.

Yup, first engine I've built, we'll see how it goes.

All four our mine... through some annoying dealings with some forums members I ended up with 5 S5 NA rotors.... 2 matching letter pairs which got race clearanced. 1 pair will soon be for sale.

one nice thing that came out of it though is I'm using 2 C weight rotors that are the same exact weight to the gram...

did some work today...

clearanced all the side seals:

I'm still on the fence about weather I want to actually port the engine or just clean up the stock ports... stock ports are pretty torquey *shrug*

installed a 929 BMC and booster. I had to replace the bolt with a shorter one in my BMC brace and it just barely fit. Next I have to mount up my Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve, and run the booster vacuum line (which is on the opposite side as stock).

Where did you get the MC brace?

Also, my brake bias is great with the OEM prop valve for some reason... does yours really need adjusting? I wonder if my extra rotating mass is enough to balance it out the rear-bias rotary ppl complain about..
