The irons, I can't get the gaskets off the water pump housing, the front, middle, and rear irons, and the intake manifold.
They seem like simple fibrous gasket material, but the stuff is like concrete, if I soak it only the top layer gets easy to take off, the rest is still stuck there pretty bad..

The problem is more the Aluminium bits, like the intake manifold (All three parts) and other aluminium pieces... we can't wire wheel those without resurfacing afterwards.
The gasket remover doesn't soak more than a couple thousandths into the gasket.

a little silicon on the gasket when you put it together keeps this from happening next time

Now here's the tie rod before I took it back off to double check them. You can see the grease starting to squirt out with little pressure other than seating the ball joint onto the knuckle:
I know most of you don't really care for this thread but, I figured that if anyone actually cared I would still update it... worst case scenario, I at least feel like I am doing something.

Well I am in a very foul mood right now...
Someone went into the trailer park and stole my wheels and catalytic converter while it was raining.
The part that really pisses me off is that where the car is sitting is smack in the middle of the trailer park and what they stole they had to unbolt some of it! If you guys remember the exhaust system was so rusted together I had to drop it as an entire assembly! So the thief took their time to unbolt the cat from the exhaust and steal it. Then they took the two front wheels and the large brown tarp I had on the ground, I am finding it hard to believe that no one noticed this happening and am in a very very bad mood over it.
The cat I could let go, but those stock 13" Plus rims going missing just put making this chassis rolling to a halt, especially since I just got my hours cut back at work due to the rescission, so I have to really start scrounging money after I buy the rebuild kit for the 13B.
So until I can score some replacement rims with tires or find what went missing, the only updates might be the engine right now.

Here's a question, I didn't think it was really necessary to make a separate thread for it, since I'm sure that the answer will be rather quick.
What is a good Aftermarket Catalytic Converter for a '86 13B? How many do I need to install for a good smog?
I've pretty much laid off the suspension and frame work since my wheels got stolen, so I ordered the rebuild kit and was thinking about drafting up some ideas for a new 2.5" exhaust system.
Any help would be appreciated?

if you have the factory smog equipment, or just the air pump blowing into the exhaust ports, it will pass with 1 main cat.
hell i got that same car to pass with an air pump and some used POS main cat i found in the yard. it failed the first time cause its missing the big heat shield and it tripped the heat hazzard sensor, which dumped a ton of fuel in the middle of the run.
so i went home, unbolted the sensor and tossed it over the roll bar, and it passed.
without that shield it gets HOT inside, i believe when they took it to mazdafest in 06 it melted shoes...
anywho, look in like the magnaflow website, or maybe summit/jegs.
technically in california its supposed to have 2 precats too, but it doesnt need those to pass, and hardly anyone knows or cares as long as it passes out the tailpipe

That was my main concern Jeff, the two pre cats made me wonder if I was going to need a second cat to get the same effect.
As for the main cat? I still have all the exhaust heat shielding and will most likely try to put the after market cat where the original was. Sadly though, in California you can no long buy "used" cats which even includes re-cored cats.
Any suggestions on who would be a good brand to consider?

Hey! Lookie what I got in the mail!
Yes that is the Atkins Rotary 6 Port 13B Kit C!
But before we start rebuilding the engine, its time to make sue she's painted properly in Flat Black and Clear VHT Header paint!
Stay tuned for more updates!

Okay guys, here's an update for you all...
I got the front and intermediate plates painted with the VHT Flat Black Flame Proof Header Paint and then don't look to bad. I'm going to clear coat the aluminum bits and the whole engine with the VHT Flame Proof Clear Coat after I assemble it to give it a sort of semi-gloss look.
My question is though, how does one polish the outside housings? I tried some fine steel wool, but that didn't seem to do anything really...anyone have ideas? tricks?
So without further ado, here's a pic or two to satisfy you guys until I get my front suspension in or I start rebuilding the motor, which ever comes first.
The painted irons in all their charcoaly glory!
and a better picture of how easy it is to store your rotary motor in a metal cabinet!

Yeah I'm rebuilding the engine in my college's classroom.
Thanks for the offer on the wheels, I found some replacements in the junkyard sans center caps.
BTW Does anyone have any ideas for how to polish the aluminum nicely?
