Had a pretty great weekend, and ended up taking the car down the street yesterday!
Was a bit terrifying.. The car feels quite strange compared to its previous self but sounds amazing! It is loud but I am pretty surprised at the overall noise with the port size and 4" exhaust. Nice and deep for sure.
One small coolant leak to sort out and I can get tuning! Then on to body and paint. Kit is mounted, hood is in progress and just waiting on some mirrors for the aero housings. Still have not decided on color / livery, but its coming together!
Had a few minutes to play around this evening, bodywork isn't my favourite thing to do but is a necessary evil. Looking forward to making it all one color (or not?).
Did a compression test after the first real street drive. Not bad, but I’m wondering if one apex seal might not have broken the superglued corner free yet.
Will test again after some miles! Love the new tester.
Was browsing ebay this morning, bit of a surprise to see my car, lol.
*** disclaimer: not the flares I used LOL
kinda trippy ain't it? i posted some photos of one of my engine projects many years ago, here on the forum, and i ended up seeing a couple of them on a YouTube channel i subscribe to about two years ago. i thought it was trippy.
in your case, i think the best part of your story is that you didn't even use those flares. that's awesome!
that said, the Gen 3 is gorgeous! congratulations.
it is a known fact that while Gen 1s demand your attention, they are unselfish. Gen 3s, on the other hand, they don't like to share attention. so good luck.
Well the FD is in a good place so I'm back to work on the FB!
I've been working hard dialing in the tune, setting up some robust engine protection and getting everything sorted out for more boost.
This weekend I put in a new ARD alternator and went through some of the wiring.
I hope to start working on the paint in a week or two if life doesn't get in the way.
I'm really torn between a bright green or keeping it black. Also kinda tempted to do a Coke Zero livery like the Liberty Walk FD, haha.
My vote is keep it black with a twist. When I was a teenager, I saw a Corvette painted black with a multi blue pearl overlay in the coats of clear. It looked like the blue that they used on the Smith & Wesson revolvers. I always wanted to paint a car that color but never have. Your interior color wouldn't match though.
Completed the bodywork over the weekend! Pulled the car outside to get everything cleaned up and prepped for more epoxy and high build.
Everything was going great until final wipe down when I noticed some minor blistering on the hood around the adhesive for the vents. Guess the panel bond didn't play nice with the filler - huge bummer.
Quickly swapped out the hood but ran out of time, now I'm really behind schedule
I'll get back on it in a couple weeks but will need to recreate the whole hood in fiberglass at some point later on. Don't think I can risk this one failing.
Spent MANY hours in the "booth" this weekend and finally got it sprayed. Super thrilled with how it turned out for a garage job, I cant wait to pull it out in the sun!
Still have to paint the trim before I put it back together but I'm scared to even touch it at the moment. More to come soon (I hope), cant help but post a little teaser:
Garage is a disaster zone!
Decided to spray the faulty hotdog hood, because why not. Fingers crossed it holds up
It is not Mach Green proper, but heavily influenced by it. Color would be very close side by side, but this should have a bit more pearl/effect.
The Group C kit and Aero Mirror housings are from JDM.Thirteen.
Spoiler is Rotary Engineering.
Hood louvers are from RE Amemiya.
Everything took some work to fit, nothing was perfect out of the box but the spoiler was the best of the lot by far. Wish Brandon had his Group C kit available when I bought this stuff.
