85 Montego Blue Build
Hi folks, I think it is time I have started my build thread. Probably not swapping in for power. Mainly because I also have a BNR stage 3 FD to upgrade to and a TII vert to rebuild lol.
Plans are to build my own re-speed" coilovers" of sorts cause I'm not into paying 600 bucks for sleeves. If I were racing it would be different. Also a f strapping on new wheels, a full exhaust, and hopefully a RB 465 carb. I am reupholstering the whole interior. I have already bought black replacement carpet from stock interiors website and also the black vinyl RB seat reupholster kit (which has not arrived).
I plan to replace every bulb in the car (with the exception of the headlights) with LEDS for superbrightled.com. They carry all colors and you can shop conveniently just by listing the car.
I will be installing a Power steering setup and A/C system in great shape I have been hording.
And of course I will get rid of all the emissions crap, rats nest, and strip the harness down and rid the unnecessary wiring.
As for what I have done so far.
It had 3 giant rust holes. One in the passenger floor and one on each wheel well. I torched out some plate steel and welded them in place.
I also deleted the holes for the side markers front and back, and also the antenna hole.
The car was silver and in decent shape when I got it. It ran well. However I just couldn't keep from stripping it down completely.
It is now on Jack stands and I just finished painting it Montego Blue two days ago.
Much, much more to follow in the following weeks.

ill take some tomorrow. Basically i took a grinder and a wiz wheel and cut the rust out. Bought some 3/16" steel and cut to size accordingly and mig welded it all in with .035 steel wire. Then I grinded the welds and sprayed the whole thing with rust preventive epoxy paint. The car will be gone long before thise plat and you couldnt beat the plates out with a sledge hammer

ah man i apologize for not posting pics of how i did it. im deathly sick on the couch. Luckily no sickness keeps this guy off the club LOL
You can pick up a real nice lincoln buzz box for like 350. mig welding is pretty easy. once you learn the proper settings and prepare the surfaces to weld..its cake

Thanks man. Had to do it. It looks just too damn good.
Today I atempted to reupholster my seats using the RB kit. Ended up taking them to a local shop. Guaranteed to look OEM and replace the torn foam for 100 a piece.
On to the next metaphorical hurdle of this build !

UPDATES !
Ive been busy with work and another death in the family. When it rains it pours I guess.
I recently bought the RB seat upholster kit and found out it was a little out of my expertise and patience so I took the seats to a local interior guy. $100 bucks a seat and I was pretty satisfied.
I have invested all together exactly $481 dollars in the two seats. He repaired some of the foam and called me to tell me the kit was a little big and to expect a few puckers. But hell I am satisfied.

Long time since I've updated. Got into the Operating Engineers Union Apprenticeship so Ive been gone for training for almost a month.
BUT, I'm back on track an ***** gonna happen ! Pulled the car out today, wet sanded, buffed, and waxed the paint. I'm really satisfied with it. The pictures don't do it justice. I will be taking better pictures tomorrow when the suns really out.
Will be prepping the hood, mirrors, and the piece around the wipers for paint tomorrow. As well as starting on the interior.
Sorry for the terrible pics but had to post some eye candy !
After wet sanding with 1500grit
Final Product !

Interior]
Today I refinished the Interior pieces in black. I'm about to reupholster the door panels and headliner later this evening.
I bought black carpet from the Stock Interior site a few months back and I need to pull it out of my closet and lay it out in the sun awhile. I ve read some horror stories on DYI carpet install. But, I dont think it will be too big of a deal with the dash and everything stripped out already.
As for the stereo I plan to use a Samung Galaxy pad much like the setup my good friend XLR8 is using here...
I will be using a stock Clarion amp that was in the GSL parts car. Ironically XLR8s FD is the model for my car. He is also using a newer version of the Clarion amp to power his speakers haha. We are going for the " My FB is his FDs grandad scheme."
Oh and a little more eye candy from when the sun hit my new paint this morning !
