Small victory today.

When I procured a GSL-SE it did not have the rear calipers or the mounting brackets. Did not take me long to realize what a tragedy this was. Through the magic of eBay I got these. $100. BAM.




The future is now, thanks to science. electrolysis specifically. I was able to liberate the pistons from the calipers and lucky enough they were from a low mileage car. a very wet low mileage car. but the pistons were good.a bit of bead blasting and a direct to metal high temp clear coat and the Mazda rebuild kit (**** rock auto in the ear) and I present everyone with this:

Nope, never came with them, didn't realize the were missing. If need be I' ll use a condom and zip ties, God knows i've done it before.

The hood was not original to the car, so there is no stock blue under the red. That said, the previous respray had to be the shitiest paint off the discount store shelf.

Not sure how I am going to get into the “ baroque depression “

50% or so done on the top.

Not everything can be perfect, turns out behind the right rear wheel the paint chipped and caused some pitting on the metal surface. Not rusted though, so hurray for that.

Pink dust from red paint being liberated from the car. Last people really screwed the pooch with the previous paint job.

Aussie passenger door hinges make for awesome US drivers side hinges

Just look at that. There is no wear on the bearing. Almost like it was hardly used. No play in the hinge. God I am happy with this.

Now comes the time where I have to start rebuying bolts... had my rear brake rotors turned and was prepared to install the rear brakes, but I lost the bolts. I also had pitting on the bottom of the doors. Today I bead blasted the trouble spots and filled in with some body plastic.

I could stand to sand a bit more, but in all it is smoothed out and rust free.

Rock Auto:” Carlson 16024” can’t remember what Mazda the part is associated with, but this is not listed in the FB catalogue. May be FC or first gen Miata. I just don’t remember right now. But it fits and is an exact duplicate.

Today’s efforts:


Non polished aluminum foil.

Just admire the sky and the lighting.

The primer is EuroPrime.

I removed all old trim paint and applied primer.

Filled in some nicks with body putty. Smooth...


Really had to work to get up in there. Only if my dental hygiene was as thorough....

Oh I did, but sometimes there is residual left behind. Still needed to sand to smooth it.
