DO IT!!!

I was initially looking at the M84 as well, but it doesn't have capability to receive knock data. That, along with the limited I/O is kind of a bummer..

Shainiac Thanks. I moved from Fairfield, CT to Dallas back a few years back. However, I do appreciate the offer of help.

DaleClark "... when she fires back up!" It got such an optimistic tone to it!!

'Oooooo, those Full Function skinny fuel rails are cool. Definitely would look better than my old one-off one and should be a simple swap out. Too easy, "Hello, Aaron..." '

Four hour later after having to recreate all of the plumbing and the injector sub-harness, I can here Murphy's giggling in my head... that bastard!!

Nice! I'm sure you'll enjoy the M1, I've been looking over some of the older tutorials from MoTeC AUS and the functionality in that box is just amazing! Are you doing DBW as well?

I'm just waiting for the shop my car is in to make final determinations then we'll be dropping an order as well

Carlos,

Can you give an idea of what all is needed to setup the GPR M130?
M130
GPR-Rotary
Loom
Sensors
Trigger....

Do you have an estimate in cost you can share? I'm trying to decide what to do with my car in the next 1-2 months.

Thanks!

This is a fairly complicated question give the vast configuration options available with any Motec M1. I'm still working through my final configuration. That said, ...
  • NUMBERO UNO: pick and commit to a tuner... this is a Go/No-Go criteria for the installation and tuning.
  • M130 w. Rotary GRP (no options) - $3300
  • Loom (Motorsports grade) - $1000 - 2500
  • Sensors & Integration - $1000-$3000
  • Calibration and Tuning - $1000-$2500 (Motec pros)
If you add up all of the range minima, I think you'll always be below actual cost. So to DO IT RIGHT, I'd plan for at least $7000.

BTW, at this level of motorsports professionalism, the supply curve is fairly steep, so 'discount' are more rare than an anorexic Cuban mothers.

M130 setup task #337: Install dual Bosch knock sensors in stock position. Sounds easy enough... till you realize the housing mounting hole is M10 and the Bosch mounting through hole is M8. After preparing to cut and thread my own M10/M8 stud, Elite Rotary's Knock Sensor Studs to the rescue.

The biggest "problem" I have found in my own M1 sensor journey is being able to determine the sensor's calibration and accuracy. This is a big problem with original oem sensors or cheaper sensors from unknown merchants. I've actually been pretty disappointed to find out that a lot of the "good/new" sensors I sourced were either chinese knock-offs or they have zero calibration data available. On a lower quality product it might not matter and be "good enough" but that's only because the ECU being used isn't working to the same level of detail. The motec is capable of not only logging hundreds of functions at very high frequency levels, but also making corrective adjustments intuitively to identify and fix problems BEFORE they become a danger. Operating at that level is completely dependent on the accuracy and quality of information available. The sensors used are critical to that availability.

I ended up opting to replace all my sensors with known quality/quantities. Milspecwiring.com and Racegrade.com are good sites to look through to get a pricing idea. My build has shot off the deep end, so I ended up going heavy on the sensors!!

When it comes to the engine loom, having a knowledgeable dealer provide input can be critical!! Apparently the ECUs can be particular about pinout arrangement. If the person designing your loom doesn't know these details it can cause issues that will cost you extra time, money, and frustration to isolate and correct. The dealer Carlos and I are going through told me straight up that he would have no part of the project if he couldn't be involved in the pinout design.

As for discounts, I saw an ad that indicates Motec will be having a sale on ECUs, PDM packages, Displays and display unlocks from the end of PRI until NYE this year. MoTeC USA hasn't confirmed this yet though.. if you plan on buying hardware and upgrades NOW is going to be the time!!! Hell, based on the ad I saw I'll save just under $1k on my M1 package, PDM package, and display. I'd save another $200-$300 on enabling codes..

Motec stuff is *not* in the cost range of budget builds, but you're getting a high end product that functions correctly from the start, tech support that is SUPER easy to communicate with, and industry leading analytics that makes the rest of the field look like they were made for etch-a-sketches.

After I lost a few motors due to inferior electronics I personally decided it was worth it to spend a bit more up front for a product that would be bulletproof!!

ECU Mounting Board

Social Distancing baby steps...

Motec M4 + 6 (total) control boxes...

+ "M126" - 5 (total) control boxes later =

Motec M130 + 1 (total) relay

Really hate it when boxes don't integrate mounting design: not sure how I'll finalize the mount for the relay. May have to fire up the mill and cut a mount. But for now, it's a low pri.

And yes, it's the original aluminum mounting plate with plenty of previous design 'character'. Makes it lighter!

Now to measurement hell in preparation for ordering the harnesses. Sure as **** ain't rigging it up myself again... especially with the Aussie dollar at these historic lows.

Social distancing is good. Flatten that epidemic curve brother!

Where are you going to place the board?

M130 Punctuated Progress persist

Final Motec M130 pinout... prerequisite to ordering the harnesses.

The new M1 brain is in, but lots of synaptic and nerve connection still to be made.

And yes, I still need to need to dry ice out the soundproofing on the deck.

The in-cabin harness design is off to my man Down Under, Nathan Vlotis of Connexion Concepts. Tomorrow the engine harness design...

Dunk-o-meter Fuel Composition Sensor

Out with the old and in with the new...

Siemens / Ford sensor top Conti Sensor bottom

Not crazy about the location as I would have preferred to route is as close as possible to the rails, but it'll do for now. The 440 ltrs/hr at boost should help response a bit... well, at least that's how I'm rationalizing the compromise for now.

Conti Fuel Comp Sensor mounted

Next up, installing the ID Fuel Filter with some main fuel line rerouting...
