While the mesh looks dope, you know it completely kills your surface area right? It's going to choke that turbo to death.

 

He has a regular filter for driving/tuning.. the mesh is pure pimping.. car show shat..

 

Maybe I'm just retarted, but I don't se how its going to choke it up.

It's less restrictive than a K&N filter. Its on the same level as a window screen with a bolt clamp..

Same screens are used on many intake setups if you search on line ITB SS filters, its the same layers used, but rather than speculating, dyno will soon be done. With K&N filter, ss mesh filter and with out. If it will choke it, I will know for sure..

Surface area. You're surface area is now just the width of the opening. With a filter, even though the holes are smaller, you have more of them so your surface area goes way up. This has been covered a bunch. And I'm looking forward to the dyno for sure.

 

If that's the case, I'd just put the filter on when driving, then leave the carbon velocity intake wide open for instances requiring maximum "bling." Makes it more impressive (IMO) to see the compressor blades, but to each his own.

Saw a car in Cali with several velocity stacks where he cut his screen material out of food grease splatter screens. He claimed that they worked flawlessly. I'm sure Chip will have data soon!

 

I agree, if its just for bling, use the CF velocity stack by itself, and let the blades do the blinging.

 

Hey mate have you seen flow results of that diffuser? I'm not convinced it will work. A venturi should be open at the end, not closed.

 

No flow results, Trial and tribulations, it don't work for what ever reason, it gets modified, re designed till it works. But once again, my retardation is interfering to why exactly it wont work?

Without doing a cfd I really won't have any numbers. Problem lies in the theory though. Briefly, a diffuser works by accelerating air through a narrow gap by expanding the section area behind it. That area must stay expanded through to where the exhaust is located to get the low pressure advantage. Hence the point I'm getting at is a lack of any exhaust for the venturi. The way it currently sits now, it's effectively a high pressure air dam sitting under the bonnet rather than a venturi. Needless to say, my opinion is it will do the reverse of what you want.

I think sometimes diffusers are misunderstood because people don't rightly understand venturi meters. With a flat underbody, a rear diffuser creates a low pressure under the whole car. This creates downforce over the whole car, both front and back wheels, not just the back wheels. Hence front diffusers are really only applicable in cases where there is an imbalance between the front and back of the car, such as the downforce created by a rear wing. F1 counter this imbalance with a front wing, LMP cars use a front diffuser. Front engined cars use the natural air dam at the front to create downforce by using a splitter. This would be a far better option because finding a free path to the diffuser exhaust would be effectively impossible with a front engined car.

Note that in both examples, the front diffuse is above the skid plate.

Droll? Seriously? What would you have done differently? Me, I'd have kept the look of the FD front end. It looks like a porsche head on - which isn't to my personal taste. With that personal exception, this buuld is (in my opinion) nothing short of a work of art.

 

Don't know if your still concerned but atomic Rex has set up another company called Minotaur racing, worth checking it out and getting in touch if you need parts

 

This thread just keeps getting better and better! Pure FD motivation.

 

Update. Nothing new LOL, waiting on some parts, had to change couple of things around. At the same time the main roads around here are in construction all dirt roads.. fu..k. Hit the road is not an option at the moment. Before i hit the dyno will like to hit the road with it, make sure all is well no leaks brake downs etc. Rather than hit the dyno and brake down on the dyno, that will be wasting time and money.. Etc..

Well any way .. I need some opinions on punting a wing on her or no wing..

This is the wing, keep in mind that i can change the location height of the wing with new mounts for best look, with out I believe i can fly jokes lol//

 

^^I like that one. I believe that Wings West also made a cool wing with center post only for the rear deck lid. I'll see if I can find a pic...

No wing needed, the car looks sleek as it is, just the way RX7's should be. The wing would take away from the beauty of the car.
