BC My Build Thread "Project Decade"

Hey guys, I just wanted to throw some pics up of my first Rx7 build. I've been trying to get one for about 10 years so I'm really excited to get her ready. My end goal is to build a super reliable car with the potential for more power in the future. I will be starting with a full rebuild and adding a few small mods. Some things I'll be doing are an OMP adapter and rats nest overhaul. I'll also be adding a couple gauges, boost and water temp. I waited a while to start this thread so I already have a ton of pics of the tear-down process but check out my progress as I go through this journey and tell me what you think.

Thanks in advance
Jameson

thanks a lot, I'm sure I'll need a little luck too.

more pics

I took pictures of almost every step, but a lot of them are too big to post and I didn't want to clog up this thread with too many. It's damn near impossible to not break vacuum lines when doing this btw.

LOL. your video is entertaining. youre obviously doing it wrong
take a torch, and walk it around the outside of the e-shaft to break loose the locktite they use from the factory. also, 350 ft/lbs isnt going to get the job done, its takes me using this:
ingersoll rand titanium with 780 ft/lbs, comes off after the 3rd hit on the anvil, always.

Haha I know, it is pretty funny. Read the description in the video it shows my process to get the nut off. 350 is enough torque for it just needed a different, better, socket.

what is that spot in the middle?

The rotors sure do clean up nice with about 2 hours each of elbow grease, a brass brush, and a wire wheel on a drill.

reassembling and omp adapter install

checked tolerances and were all in spec. RA seals and O-ring kit. New main bearings mazda OEM, metal Front cover and UIM gasket from atkins as well as a few other misc bolts and gaskets. The guys at Atkins were awesome, I spent about 1.5 hours there getting shown around the shop and stuff.

The "fun" part

My 2 stroke res came in, using Amsoil synthetic oil. Vacuum job and wiring harness clean-up. Wasn't as bad as i thought. Thanks to all the threads I read about this part, I didn't break any nipples.

cleaning and oil pan sealing

subframe needed some love.

this is the wrong way to seal your pan btw!!! I used the wrong silicone and had to do it all over again. used "The Right Stuff" that everyone swears by and it was fine, other that the fact that the can ran out of pressure halfway through and I had to puncture it and squeeze it out to finish the pan.

well it's been a while since I've updated you guys, but if you check out this thread https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/why-am-i-dropping-coolant-982348/ you'll see why. Now that it's all sorted out and I finished my 2nd rebuild. I'm doing some more mods to it. I ordered flying "M" emblems for my car and also got another oil cooler so I can do Howard Coleman's Dual oil coolers mod. And now I have 99 tails too!!! Pics to come. Should have her running before my birthday 4/15.
