Kilo Racing 3 Rotor FD Conversion
Okay so I finally put a little something together. I left it uncut because I really didn't take enough to do much with. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy it and I hope it conveys a little bit of what it was like to ride in a 20b FD. I really focused on the engine speed and the sounds of the car, but my equipment isn't the greatest
There is a lot of commentary from David about the car and a few stupid questions from me...anyways, enjoy!
You will need Quicktime 7 to view because I used H.264. It's 83.5MB, so I recommend downloading, not streaming. David's 20b [uncut] (right-click, save-as)

it was a blast hanging out with all of you. Hopefully the car will actually be fixed soom and I can drive it for real. Spoke with Gotham today and they've taken the car to an electrical shop where they can put load on the alternator to diagnos what part of the system is causing the voltage drop.
Should be done soon. You haven't heard that from me before, have you?

I don't recall seeing that pic before, it's a nice shot. Which shop was it taken at?

My car is the running joke with everyone...the inevitable "so is that car done yet?" The answer is always "two weeks" until the next hang-up...
I'm getting my rear brake kit this week and sizing wheels when it's bolted up. Then it's time to drop the motor in
.
Yes. The new 300 AMP alternator tested out bad - the voltage regulator was shot. Am still concerned how this happened. This is the fourth alternator in 1.5 years installed in the car. Hmm?
So, the new alternator is now in the car. The plug and all wiring for the alternator and the battery has been replaced, some of it with 4 gauge wiring. New grounds have also be added to the car. When I spoke with Gotham on Friday, they were testing the wiring. They're also trying to solve my PLX gauge problem - the units randomly freeze during use. Gotham thinks this is due to the wiring extensions used and they've removed these and relocated the sender units. Finally, the car has a potential water temp problem. It consistently runs between 205-210 degrees. With the huge Spal fans on the car, this should not happen. Gotham is starting by removing the thermostat to see the effect. They're thn thinking about drilling it out to allow more flow. I'm also thinking an undertray will help with this - Pettit removes this for thier 3 rotor conversions but I've never thought this is a good idea. Am calling Pettit this morning to discusss.
That's it for now!

What radiator are you using? Might want to consider something larger with a 2 or maybe even 3 pass core. An electric water pump may help also. Hope I didn't give you another project....

If going 20b is normally half this hard I'd never consider it.

I really just cant go thru this whole thread lol. What ecu are you running since the Wolf was jacked up? Wasnt there a issue with the board in the Wolf burning up wayyyyyy back when Pettit first tried tuning the car? Seems like I recall something like that from a couple years ago lol.
Does it have a custom engine wire harness in it or a hacked up stock harness? With as much money as you have spend SOMEONE should have put a custom harness with nice insulation and shrink wrap on your car by now.

Slight update: still don't have the car. Got to drive it yesterday. Steve Kan kept saying "don't let off the gas!". I don't know, it gets kinda scary above 130 MPH in Dallas traffic
The coolant problem is fixed. The car now runs below 200F so that's good. The voltage issue is still there. During cruising, the car is fine and volts stay at a constant 13.7 or so. Under boost though, the voltage drops to 12.7. The difference now is that the drop stays constant at this level (versus wide flucuations before the new alternator) and then immediately recovers to 13.7 after you let off boost. The new alternator is installed and is completely rewired with 4 gauge wiring so this won't be the issue. We're trying a Jacobs 1500 watt Accuvolt unit to correct the problem. This unit supplies a constant voltage to the car regardless of flucuations from the alternator. If this doesn't work, then it's going to be a bitch to troubleshoot where the draw is occuring.
Should know more next week.
