i was there. the car is going back to texas with steve. they were having a voltage problem at higher boost levels. 300 amp alt and the voltage was droping down to 7ish and then back up. they think its not the alt, because it doest do it at the same RPM, it is random. i feel sorry for David, but he said he has waited this long, so why not wait a little longer for it to be just right. that pic of they dyno graph was at 9 psi, then they got it up to like 480 at 9.3 with more tuning, then hit 511 WHP at 11. next it was getting cranked up to 14 and they had the bad voltage problems.

and yes the motor is street ported, but david said it is fairly small. that car is SUPER clean!!

Update (Quickie):

Sorry for not posting sooner, but I'm swamped until tonight. I'll post much more tomorrow. dgregg100 is right - the car is back at Gotham. It has a voltage issue that is also causing a bad ignition problem at 6,000 RPMs and above. Voltage stays constant at a little above 14 until this level where it randomly flucuates between 11 and 13.5 or so. It's so bad Steve couldn't tune the car. As sad as it was, I had to agree with Steve. The car had to go back to find the problem.

The best we could do was 511 RWHP at 13 lbs. of boost:

Given where we were at 9 PSI, we should be well above this level but the breakup was way too bad. It's not too noticiable on this dyno because Steve was trying to tune around the problem before he pulled the plug on the session so he didn't blow the engine.

Will post much more tomorrow. Can anyone host some videos? Thanks to everyone who came out Deals Gap is not looking likely now unless Gotham quickly finds the problem.

David,

WOW! It has to go back?? Geez! Just curious, did they replace the + cables and Ground cables or are you still using the stock cables?? How about the ground strap to the engine?? How big is your battery and did you relocate it?? To me and I think the most common issues for voltage drop is cabling. Good luck.. Should be an easy fix!

Not knowing much of anything, I would think it's placed in a good location as the bulk of the engine weight is over the front axle? Am I wrong?

It would be much better to move that weight as close to the center of the car as possible... having it hang out over the front isn't ideal, but I'm sure pettit has a reason for doing it like that. But for any car, dynamics are typically improved by having the engine and other heavy bits set up between the axles, as close to the center of the car as possible... think about all those sexy mid-engine exotics with their engines just behind the driver, infront of the rear axle.

I think it should sit slightly behind to help achieve the 50/50 weight distribution.

I think Pettit does this to keep the shifter in the stock location, but I could be wrong.

The engine is not any further forward than the 13b with the Petitt setups with the exception of the extra 6" of motor hanging over the the centerline of the front wheels. The rear housing still mounts to the tranny at the same spot. The reason it looks further forward is because the rear runner in the lim of a 20b shifts forward siginificantly more than the 13b lim.

I'm confused.. Is david using some other tranny? If he's using FD tranny, I would think if you move the rear plate foward, the tranny will move foward also... I could be wrong but I recall the rear plate being about the same thickness as FD plate.

I should be able to finish the video tonight -- I've been equally swamped. Expect something tomorrow .

The oil filter is in the same position as the original 13b.

Hi David:

You can post the video on Streetfire.net for free. It's very easy to setup an account. I believe youtube works the same way. Those are good numbers for that boost level. What were the AFRs like? Do you have an ECU datalog of the run?
