Quickie update:

Cross your fingers but it looks like I'll be set to pick up the car next week. The rims and tire issue has thrown off the date until then. Turns out the Forgeline rims were 9.5s, not 9s as ordered. This has now been corrected. The wheels were also the wrong profile for the rims so they had to go back. New Michelins on the way now though.

Everything else seems to be ready now. Cam is going to spend a few more hours on the car doing some final tuning before I pick up the car. Everything else has been installed and I'm really looking forward to seeing the car. Had them add on the quarter side marker lights and had them fabricate a metal piece to go above my exhaust. Also had them 3M film the front bumper to protect against rock chips.

As for the tranny, I stayed with the stock unit as it should handle the powere of the car. If it blows up, then I'll get your suggestions as to what to replace it with.

So, now I'm just hanging out waiting for the Pettit phone call to come pick up the car!

David,

I saw your car at Pettit's shop and OH MY GOD !!!
The rear flares look awesome. I was going to have it done to my car but I can't bring myself to cut the fenders of a 12,000 mile rx7. Anyway, I am sure you will be very happy with your car as Cameron does exceptional work.

Olivier,

You're killing me man. Everyone's seen the car but me! I can't wait.

RX7UP, I'm taking my camera with me when I pick up the car so I'll be sure to post many pics.

David, got another question for ya. Did you discuss engine placement options w/ Pettit at all? I'm curious what their take is on shifting the engine back (be it 2 inches to the firewall, or the 6 or 7 inches through the firewall). ?

Thanks (sorry for all the ?s)

Yep. There's a reason why there's no hood on this car...after all the cutting, bracing, and fabricating to fit the engine in the bay (notice NO accessories), they couldn't fit the stuff under a hood either...lol

It's only four cylinders long. (Two at a time) Side by side......

Yes it is which is why the turbos are on one side and the intake is on the other.

2JZ=I6, LS-1, LT-1=V8. Much easier to fit. I'd like to do a 13G transplant at some point, though the cost will be extreme.

FDNewbie,

I didn't discuss engine placement options with Pettit. I went with what they have done several times before - they make a custom 20B subframe and other parts to place the engine in a manner with which they are most comfortable. I understand others place the engine further back by cutting into the firewall etc.

Brian, can't wait to get a dyno on the car. This has to wait, however, until after I break in the engine (1,000 miles or so). I'll get this on the car ASAP so I don't have to wait very long on the dyno.
