hey guys, i did a little more tinkering and decided to swap out the wastegate actuators, swapping back to the "medium boost" actuator, and the overboost problem is completely fixed.

i have no idea why the problem existed with only the low boost actuator, but swapping it out completely fixed the problem.

and sorry, i've been on an emotional rollercoaster over this the last 2 days

so i dyno tuned today, and the short story is that this turbo is awesome. running the same boost as my previous 6262 setup, it made 12psi 1500rpms sooner, and made the exact same power. here are the graphs below (scales are different, and different software, but you can see the difference in response)

so the result was 338whp @ 12psi with very good boost response. enjoy the pics and videos.

previous 6262 setup boost response

new EFR 8374 setup

new EFR 8374 setup with power and boost plot (notice the boost is in ~1500 rpms SOONER)

Very encouraging results . Do you plan on tuning for more boost or just sticking with 12psi? What's she feel like driving, compared to your previous setup?

yes. the 12psi hits actually about 1500rpms sooner... it is noticeably more responsive. now that the boost issue is fixed, this setup is much, much better (mainly because of the simplicity and high quality turbo).

i'm going to leave it at 12 psi and focus on not being a terrible driver at my track day coming up stuff starts to break when running over 350whp!

Amazing results. Is it normal to have your exhaust glowing that much? Its almost down to the mp! For a track car that makes me nervous

good question.

in my experience, ripping it like this on the dyno will make any turbo rotary setup glow like that. the gear ripping and on/off is very stressful, but that's the majority of what's going on at the track, so i think it needs to be done, though some may argue that.

my previous setup (Turblown dual wastegate manifold, 6262, etc.) glowed just as brightly, we just didn't have a camera right on it at its hottest.

i'm also going to be heat-wrapping my downpipe this week, so that should help keep a LOT of the heat out of the engine bay.

I agree that some more shielding will help in a few places. We discussed more shielding for the LIM (back area), and wrapping DP, etc. Its good that this setup is so low, and hopefully will benefit from more airflow when the car is actually moving to help with temps. There is a WG canister shield which can be GOOOLD foiled to protect it a bit.

fritz, the flames are from "fuel restore" setting in my Haltech. i have it adding 10% fuel when coming back in from decel fuel cut. this is too much (it should really be maybe 2-3%) but it's just so fun.

the AFRs during the pulls are in the mid-high 10s.

Any plans on getting the AFRs more to around 11.0 -11.3? The 10s are just really rich.

Glad to see you got the issue resolved and are pleased with the EFR turbo. Love the spool up on it. Did you say somewhere what size AR you are running? I'd also love to see someone install and test a 9180 with a small AR on a 2 rotor. That would be a beast I think.

Wanted to point out Borg Warner has a really detailed Feature Guide and Training Manual for the EFR turbo line:

http://www.3k-warner.de/files/pdf/ef...ical_brief.pdf

My contacts at Borg Warner indicate they "have not yet found an installation where the use of a properly-designed and executed control system didn’t result in flawless operation". They also say, "Most issues stem from an incorrect actuator canister selection and mis-adjustment, as well as issues of understanding the (important) role that the BCSV (boost control spill valve) plays in controlling the actuator."

Hope this helps and look forward to seeing more results.
