Nice try brosamuelson. Those are facts. I know when it comes to the LS stuff most people on here have a phobia to the facts, but you can't shake em. I do like the rotary (not that me liking it makes the facts any different. See how that works?) but you can't deny reality.
And the $$$ spent versus power will REALLY make your butt hurt, so don't go down that road. There are 200k mile junkyard pullouts making 1000hp and running 8's. 7's probably, I just don't follow that much.
In an FD, past the exhaust, to make 500whp with a LS1 you just needs, heads, cam and throttle body. The last 2 cost a grand total of like $600 retail. The heads all depend on how much you want to spend. Call it 2-2.5k all in. Oh and you can put that all on in an afternoon.
Anything else?

so it costs $2500 to mod an LS1 up to 500whp.
what about the actually LS1 engine/T56/harness/driveshaft/intake/headers/mounts/radiator/exhaust/heads/cam/TB/hptuner that josh doesn't have, which he would have to buy?
a rebuild and re-tune would be pretty cheap/easy and get him right back at 500whp, as brosio said.
why do all the v8 guys talk about people's butts hurting so often?

Sucks to see this thread turn into another motor argument; time to unsub... OP wish you the best with whichever setup you decide going with and remember IT'S YOUR CAR, DO WHAT YOU WANT!
Btw I agree 100% with Rxmfn7; the only man talking sense around here. I also love the faults in my car. It's unique to me and as long as I'm smiling while driving the FD then I'm not selling it.

Yeah.
Is your car running yet?
Bolt in swap right? No big deal.
No hate. Just saying. You make is sound like heaven on earth, but there are 5 million crappy LSx swaps out there for every 1000hp build. I'm sure you can appreciate the difficulty involved.
Plus LSx sounds like yuck and got no soul.

saying in a cartman style
I like the rotary because its keewweelll
wheres my cheesy poofs
Well basically, the RX7 is special because it has a rotary. You change the motor then its like any other sports car, well at least the 7 is better looking than most.
The thread is now power vs purist.
I think most guys are upset because your car was perfect like a museum piece, an example for others to follow. Its really a shock to see something perfected then torn apart. The whole soul thing is the passion and dedication Mazda put into the RX7 and its rotary motor.
I really don't think people would care as much if it was just some random FD that was beat up with high mileage. It’s just that your car was so effin awsome it hurt us as well to see you do that to your car.
You’re doing the right thing for you.
We just need to support you through your transition.

Once he parts out he shouldn't really have to worry about the cost much, also I'm sure he would like to stay rotary if he didn't have consecutive problems. I think as he has already said, he just wants to enjoy his FD and not be wrenching on it and having to worry about problems. Everyone is arguing over lost soul or V8 guys proving how much more reliable it is, we all know the facts, so why are you guys arguing? All that matters is when he is driving his FD and it's putting a smile on his face, that's what we all want right?

And again, completely subjective on "5 million crappy LS swaps." That's like saying Evo's are shitty because a large number of DSM owners have horrible setups. Just hang on the fact that you don't like them for whatever reason and quit acting like you have a legit point to make.

Never quite understood why simple differences in opinion can lead to such arguments. Instead of, "Hey I like my setup because ___ ", and "Oh that's cool well I like mine because _____", it ends up "Mine is better and if you don't agree you are a retard". They're cars people..., lets all take a deep breath and step away for a few minutes

Now the completely custom single turbo setup I designed, engineered, payed for and built wasn't bolt in. Good lord. How do people think this line of reasoning will hold up?
So, about as well as your line of reasoning.

We're talking about modifying cars here. Nothing is objective.
I like both your builds(past, current, and hypothetical), but if you want to argue about whether the rx7 is better rotary or something else we can argue til the cows come home.

I do prefer rotary power in FD's but I'm not against v8's. Stock cam ls1's with long tubes and an intake revving at or near their stock redline are just so boring. Build one that revs over 7.5k or add some boost and now it's actually something worth paying attention to.

What if we started some sort of community pool to put this car back together with a rotary? I guarantee you can make this car dead reliable even at 30psi just by making a few small changes, the biggest is moving to e85. I will donate a rotor( assuming I have a matching weight unit), and one of our 13b stud kits.
