Thank you all for the wicked cool support, words, and.... banter

To even consider donating parts is just too awesome. Elliott, you make it hard my man. You have given me a lot of support and it's tough to say "no" to this. The community is lucky to have a great vendor that supplies excellent parts and continued innovation.

I am putting a V8 in my car. I have already started disassembling for partout. As much as it may hurt to see my car get the treatment, I can assure you it will be a quality build and it's not going to get sold out in a few years from boredom.

Regardless of what propels it down the road, I assure you my Rx7 will be doing what all sports cars are intended; to supply the most important aspect of motoring...FUN!

I think you should wait a few months and get a pullout LT from the new vette with the 7 speed manual tranny.

You'd be the first with that and it'd be pretty sick.

I have to admit, that would be pretty sweet. They finally went back to a regular transmission I hear.

I'm saying when you shove a front mount turbo in a swapped FD, it isn't a street car. Just because you put up with the bed you've made doesn't mean anyone else would.
The lsx has less breath than a smoking fat kid. Narrow powerband is reality. Good for pulling stumps and towing boats.

That title is pretty funny. This new build is gonna be sic! Josh will do the swap right and we all know its gonna be insane and well sorted. Good luck with the new build and territory man. The RX7 community owes you some respect for what you have done and contributed to the community. I barely post on here cause I really don't have to... Most of my questions are answered by the wealth of information from Josh and this club! I will use this thread (and some of these parts ;-) ) to guide my single turbo build! LS, 13b, 20b, etc... Its still a sexy *** FD. Also I see this car as my FD's big sister. Can't wait to see the black on silver theme carried on to an LS swap!

This actually made me laugh out loud, so I had to quote it for how hilarious it is.

Looking forward to seeing the level of detail that Josh brings to this build. Should turn out to be one of the cleanest swaps to date.

6 of 1, half dozen of the other. I hate that your engine went blew. That was a lot of power. I hope you enjoy the swap. I think you will.

Alot of power for a Rotary, his new setup will send rotors running, and do it reliably

This is a really weird metric to me. I see a heck of a lot of built rotary powered FDs for sale.

There are two reasons you generally see these cars for sale:

1. People like "projects" and once they're done, they just want another project. I have this issue, but I just keep building cars for others or redesigning my own.

2. People failed to understand what was required, in effort and dollars, to build a really well sorted car.

Beyond that, I sure see a lot of people giving a lot of lectures about a car that they don't own. I'm not particularly sure why everyone on the internet thinks that their un-backed opinion is super valuable, but hey, more power to you I guess.

In all seriousness , every point you made is valid. Although it can be done, as has been shown by Rich and many others, I don't think anyone can deny that a 13b just isn't the best choice for huge power. You're running in the edge and any small hiccough in the system can lead to failure.

Not trying to influence your decision , but I'll throw in my $.02 anyway. As cliche as it sounds, I feel the fd is a scalpel, not a sledgehammer. IMO it doesn't need 500+rwhp to be fun, but I realize my goals and wants/needs are not the same as everyone's, obviously yours included. I myself at one time was heavily debating an LS swap, even had the mount kit and everything in my possession and was sourcing engines. After some heavy thought though I realized that even though the car would be objectively better in almost every category, it most likely would not be special to me anymore. It would probably just then be a fun toy id play with for a while, and then sell once the novelty wore off and I'd move on to something else. I fell in love with the fd because of the character it has and the feeling it gave me driving it, which the engine is a huge part of. I'm not knocking anyway who chooses to do one, as I completely get it and I'm actually a big fan.. I just realized it wasn't for me. Sports cars in general are more of an emotional decision than anything else, and for me a rotary in an fd just feels right and puts a smile on my face, with its flaws and all. I just felt that at least for myself, a year or so down the road when I walked to my fd in the garage that it just wouldn't be the same anymore with the v8 power as it felt cranking up the rotary. But hey, at least you'd be sure it starts and doesn't spew white smoke . If you're more of a practical guy and all you care about is performance/dollar and increased reliability (which who can say that's a bad thing), then I guess there are no downsides .. But from an emotional aspect it just would not be the same. Whatever you decide I'm sure it'll turn out great and I look forward to seeing the progress.
Perfectly said

Anyone who needs 400 plus much less 500 plus HP should either sell their 3rd gen and get a corvette or viper (what I'd do) or put in a LS engine.

I hate seeing guys struggle with this engine trying to make 500 hp and spending ridiculous amounts of money trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

The FD is a lot of car and to truly appreciate it you must 1st learn to drive it which takes a skilled driver a long time in stock form much less at 500 rwhp. I'd like to see more driving threads and less build threads

I'd also like to add that I really like rotary engines. They make FANTASTIC road race motors, and 3/4 rotors can make BIG power dead reliably. I am a bigger fan of N/A motors then turbos, but man, a nice 20B just founds fantastic. I spend a lot of time looking at rotary build threads around here (the 4 rotor build in the FC section is EPIC).

That said, I'm quite confident the direction this car is going will lead to a fantastic result. I think at the end of the day we're all enthusiasts and this petty bickering over an engine choice is no better than the Ford vs. Chevy crap. I'm a brand agnostic, engine agnostic kinda guy. Get on board with that, it's a lot less stressful than freaking out about what type of engine someone else has in their car. We aren't enemies here guys.
