Figured it was time for a little update


Found a good home for my FAIT sensor:





















It fits perfect there. Plenty of material to tap, sensor is "just" in the path of air exiting the intercooler. And the pipe to the greddy elbow covers it all up, so it is a clean look.


I spent most of Superbowl Sunday with Chuck W. We calibrated my GM map sensor, experimented with some throttle body changes and began on a custom map. For some reason, My car was hitting 17+psi off the wastegate. It may have gone higher if I did not abort the pull. I need to get my boost under control before we can continue.

Also learned something that could be helpful to other rotary noobs. The vacuum lines on the LIM are not tapped into the intake. They are only "pass through" pipes. I had originally used one for the boost reference for my FPR. Bad idea.

 

Few little updates:

Swapped the 15psi wastegate spring for a 9psi spring. I haven't run it yet, but I am guessing it will boost 10 or 11 PSI off the spring.

Pulled out double din Pioneer and the Alpine amp. It was installed by the previous owner. I am picky about clean installs and had planned on redoing all his wiring. But I noticed the speakers he put it only require 45w RMS. The head unite provides 50w RMS and the amp was a 4ch x 100w rms.

So I installed a single din radio and removed all the amp/wiring/bs. With the single din, I now have room for my new Speedhut gauges:



























I haven't powered them up yet, but I am hoping they are close to the same red/amber as the factory gauges when lit up at night. The AFR gauge is on a 0-5v 9-16AFR so I should be able to program my custom 2nd output of my Ecotrons ALM wideband to accurately control the gauge.

Water temp and IAT will still be monitored from the commander.

Good to know. Hope to see for myself in the next couple of days. I really like the gauges compared to others I have seen. really clean looking.

 

AI kit came in.

I installed the nozzle. Planning to do some welding this weekend and button up a few things.

Its a DO kit. If you end up buying one, I highly recommend www.neverenoughauto.com make a phone call and ask the best price. Its worth the phone call.

I will get more pics up after I loom it. Right now, my engine bay is full of red white yellow blue and red wires that need to be loomed.

Gauges are fully installed and functioning. Another highly recommended product: ALM by Ecotrons. The thing is awesome. You can run any gauge you want and program it. The other output you can program for Datalogit or any other ECU you want. It was onboard diagnostics and everything. Just a very cool wideband. I will do a full review on it late. Matt is the guy I talk to. He even calls / emails me on Sundays. crazy.

I found your thread from the Defined V-mount thread.

Its funny, because I have a bunch of parts ordered, and it seems we'll be twins.

I expect the A-spec kit in ~3 weeks, and the Defined v-mount will hopefully be here sooner than that.

Will do. fortunately and unfortunately, the need for a new turbo came sooner than later, so I havent done anything with the fuel system. So i'll be keeping it at 7-8psi until I can do the full FFE fuel kit with some 725 primary and 2000 secondary Injector Dynamics. That will happen sooner than later though.

 

Note:

Wiring sucks. You have to do it right or it looks like crap. I have just finished (all at same tear down) fuel pump rewire, 3 gauges, radio swap, amp removal, water injection, dual EGT, wideband, boost controler... I really dont want to ever see a wire again. During the process, my ac controls quit working. So have to get behind the dash at least one more time and figure out what happened. Oh, and put a miata battery in the r/r bin.

My next priority is to get the AC working. I broke my condenser a while back while trying to bend the lines to make it work with my v mount. I was going to go aftermarket, but i think i will just cut / re-weld it and make my own mounting brackets. Its already getting warm in Houston ... black on black car.

The tune is currently roughed in at spring pressure (about 10.5 psi) and running good. Haven't run the WI yet or used the boost controller, that is coming soon. I am really happy with it so far.

 

I can't leave anything alone. I am going to the dark side. Anybody following this thread, I am parting out everything I don't need for the ls swap.

For those of you that followed the build, I got exactly what I was going for. A hell of a street car. I enjoy the rotary engine. I knew that one day I was going to go LS. I figured if I ever blew my engine I would do it. But I changed my mind. I'll do it now while my engine and turbo are still worth a lot of money rather than in 50k miles when i throw an apex seal through my turbine.

I will post more updates in the future. I know this site isn't big on motor swaps, but wth. I have friends here.

 

wow, this really is funny. i've got my car all set up too (still somewhat twins), and I've recently had the LS bug (my fiance and I built an LS miata). I was thinking for a while about an LS3 and magnusson heartbeat supercharger, but I've decided to hold it out with the 1.3L.

just something cool about a 1.3L making that much power.
