They are also developing their ems to work with the rotary. lots of interesting options. Also comes with the AI injection capability.

so no multiple boxes and better safety system etc when running AI.

i called FJO re a wideband calibration situation today and after getting it straightened out, my calibration was of course the issue not the unit, the subject turned to their AI product.

WOW

if you are considering an AI system i strongly suggest you cruise on over to fjoracing.com. spend some time and don't miss downloading the instructions for their system.

like many, they use a meth compatible surflow pump but from that point on they put considerable distance between their unit and many others.

they use a high speed valve/solenoid to meter AI injectant. somewhat similar to Aquamist. the delivery quantity is controlled by the valve not the pumpspeed. as such the possibility exists for more accurate control IMO.

control is set thru your laptop w a map similar to the Power FC. you can control delivery based off rpm and boost. rpm and TPS. boost and INJECTOR DUTY CYCLE etc. you will need to visit the site to get the details. nozzles go from 400 to 1200 CC/min which covers our delivery needs perfectly.

FJO, according to Gerald Oberbuchner, finds many of it's AI customers running a 50-50 mix generally but the system works w any injectant. while located Up There in Canada they seem to be afflicted w the same old speed bug. for instance they have an in house 585 cu inch twin turbo camaro putting out 1800 hp running 7.7 in the Q on a diet of 50-50. they sell lots of their units to vipers.

i discussed the rx7 w gerald as well as our section and expect they will be heard from in the near future. do take a look at their systems which retail out for approx $700.

you will be impressed. i am.

Howard,

I posted somewhere before about this company. They look promising.

Glad you had a chance to talk to them. I talked in length with him. If you like their AI controller you would love their EMS. It has a built in AI contoller and wideband controller and has so many programable functions and possibilities it makes my E6k look like it was from the 1800's. The ems will automatically change maps at loss of AI or any other fault etc. (currently developing rotary application unfortunately. Should be out this year)

I was going to purchase the AI kit from them and go with the recommend 50/50 but I'm starting to cheap out on my car. (When I tell people how much I have into my car they think I'm nuts. Not hard to spend money!) I think a 500r CDI will be a better purchase first.

So how is your AI working? Read that BDC had a mishap. Hope he gets back on line. Was surprised to only see around 400rwhp with so much boost though. (Unless I am seeing wrong)

Yep, Ian. Hit 440rwhp and approximately 370ft/lbs of torque at ~24psi of boost. Turbo was basically maxxed out. That's part of what I was trying to see and get to when I was there.

Makes sense. Since I think we have the identical setup. I could not get more then 410rwhp even at 18 or psi. No real big difference from 15psi to 18 or something. Just way more hp and tq down lower in the rpm band.

Keep up the good work BDC. I know I couldn't do as such.

Still a nice dyno number though.

so you're using the actual standalone? do tell!

I'm very interested in this FJO kit, and its neat that they sell it all piece by piece.

I was thinking just get the pump/solenoid and wire it in as a switched output and PWM output and have my standalone run it along w/ a input as a level sensor to control boost control (also ECU).

Hopefully the Wolf will play nice

i had occasion to speak to Gerald Oberbuchner at FJO today....

there are alot of very interesting things going on.

FJO offers a High Speed Valve (HSV) AI system that sounds like it would work excellently on our rotaries. the HSV concept is in process of replacing the pump speed progressive system as it simply offers PRECISE DELIVERY OF AI INJECTANT.

FJO originally built electronics for the military and has carried the MILSPEC concept thru into the fast growing racing control subsystems sector of their business. (bombproof).

other very rotary friendly FJO offerings:

Peak and Hold (Low Impedance) Injector Driver

(the initial reason for my call) how many of us run 1600 secondary injectors? since they don't match up w our Power FCs we glue in a ballast resistor and fiddle unsuccessfully w the lag settings. i don't know what your fuel map looks like at transition but i have to raise my injector on-time as much as 70% for 400-700 rpm to get constant AFRs. this is not the way to run a railroad or your rotary. there are other drawback relating to precise tuning... every rotary running 1600s should have the FJO Driver Convertor as a part of their injector circuit.

EGT digital convertor!

another item that is needed on modded rx7s... the module takes the K thermocouple voltage output, converts it to 0-5 volts so you can DIGITALLY LOG your egts on your map. you need to know your egts. i built such a box (before they became available) and digitally log mine. know your egts or blow your motor. especially when you are in the process of tuning AI. FJO will be out w a new unit in May that is the size of, well it is REALLY small, and inexpensive. forget trying to look at an analog guage as you put your right foot down. digital is everything.

currently FJO has a very neat EMS... FJO plans rotary availability by next year.

check out their website fjoracing.com

Think FJO would make a dual probe for the EGTs so we can find out the EGT of each chamber?
