I dont post on here much but I'm on atleast every day reading people's posts. I'm not going against rynberg or anything as I've come to respect him through several postings of his that I've read. In my particular case however (being the only one I can actually speak on), my FD's lifespan was 136,000 miles and through the previous owner's records and my own experiences with the car since 2002, the only major issues the car ever had was a failed rear main seal and a worn clutch. Other than that service was basic oil and coolant changes, air, fuel and oil filter changes, and brakes. I put over 20,000 miles on the car each year and redline as often as I can which is almost always (but never in first gear unless doing what we ALL do from time to time which is have a speed contest with another vehicle).

Probably the main difference is that both myself and the previous owner deviated from an oil change schedule of 2000 miles as little as possible and we both mainly only trusted valvoline oil (except for my brief experiment with Mobil1 and Quaker State). Most times I'd change my oil atleast every other sunday. My engine failure (blown outer o-ring) was rooted in a failed stock (plastic) AST. Original turbos are still well within spec.

IMO, the glue'd together plastic AST must be the single most obvious weak link of the FD and should be the first mod done to an aged unmodified FD. The left offset fuel inlet from the gas tank is also an issue however there's a simple solution to that which is don't wait until you're down to a quarter tank to refuel.

Inline with rynberg's statements though, I think that a person should purchase an FD only once they've accumulated not only the cost of the car but also the cost of a reman, or are willing to be without the car for long periods of time during down time. IMO, the car is worth everything that it WILL put you through. The question is if you are ready to deal with that and will you respect the car and capabilities. If not, you will literally break you pockets or kill yourself.

This is getting out of hand. DO A SEARCH, you guys are just coming on here spewing garbage. Do some work like everyone else. We have all SEARCHED, so do the same. I usually don't get into this, because most newbies listen, come on. You are wasting everyones time asking such redundant questions.
SEARCH THE FAQ BEFORE YOU COME AND START SPEWING **** ALL OVER WITH 19 POSTS. otherwise these are going to be the responses you get. We will love to help if you do some work first, don't come around and think people are going to give the answers to everything. NOT THIS FORUM. SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

samerooo222,

People have given their opinion that this is not the car for you. If you still want the car, just get it. I'm going to close this thread as it's basically already served it's purpose. Good luck with whatever you decide.
