I havent had full coverage on my car for the past couple years. I dont think its worth it. Basically the ins companies are going to **** you no matter what. Why pay them extra money every month just to do so? The ins value of these cars is so low now that all it would take is a minor fender bender to consider them totaled.
Now my situation is a little different than the original posters.. I drive my car maybe 150mi per month and not at all in the winter. And if anything breaks or gets dented, I have enough money to fix it out of pocket.

i do get pulled over but somehow i always get off with a warning or just a slow down please. I know most cops are tuff but how do you guys come off to them when your pulled over? i always shut the car off put both my hands on the wheel so they can see them and am as respectful as possible with yes sir and no sir and try to always have my ID and insurance somewhere right away. oh i also found the truth, well most of the truth usually helps. the other day i was pulled over for well he didnt know how fast but he saw me take off and i went through the first 3 gears and looked back and saw him so i pulled over before he even got close. i told i him i had just finished up some work on the car and was testing to see if everything felt right with the turbo and all and some other mumbo jumbo but was very nice and he looked at my record saw it was clean and told me to please slow down this isnt my personal race track, which i agree but drive like it is anyway.
If you really want the car, get it. Other people's opinion's shouldn't really matter that much and if you've really been reading for 6 months you should know all about what to expect with an FD.
I'm sort of in the same area as you because I'm 20 and just bought mine less than a month ago. I pay $260 a month on insurance and I daily drive it (only drive about 10 miles a day.) To me the car is more than worth it. What I did was start a second bank acount and I trickle money into it every month so that when the rebuild time comes up, I'll be ready or just a tiny bit short depending on how soon it happens. Also, the phrase "No big deal, I can fix that for cheap" is gone.
Yeah I know I'm stupid for daily driving my RX-7 and it's my only car but I go to Iraq in October and I want to drive the hell out of this car before I leave. I won't let it sit until there's no more rubber left on the tires.
*yeah I'm new here too and I'm sure I'll be bitched at for giving advice, gotta love being a newb*

Based on the new info you've given us, I'd say you're not ready for this car. Financial considerations aside, are you prepared to control a car as fast as the FD? What is the most powerful vehicle you've owned or driven on a daily basis? Have you got experience in a rear-drive car?
Since you're in KS, and it snows there, I'd recommend buying a Subaru. The price for 99-01 2.5RS's has dropped dramatically recently, and you can get an 02-03 WRX for cheap also. Both are fun to drive, and plenty of power for a 20-year-old. My '00 2.5RS weighed only 2800lbs, and had 165 ft/lbs of torque. It was a great all-around car, and nearly invincible in adverse conditions.

Okay guys... just becuase I cheap out on insurance doesnt mean im going to cheap out on my car. I plan on putting every penny on this car and into reliability mods. Whats with some of you actually getting mad at me for wanting to purchase this car??? its starting to **** me off. I have been saving up only for the past two months and am almost ready to buy the car. I can store away around $1,000 a month after I purchase this car. I dont want a damn subaru! Last one i had was a POS and the tranny went out. For the other idiot that told me to get a honda....I AM! Are you not reading? I said I want to buy a CRX for my daily driver. Ask anyone I know, I cheap out on food, clothes and everything else, but NOT my cars.
And am I ready to control a fast FD? What do you think the car is? A 9 second drag car? Its a normal car, Ive driven supras and 300zxs all the time. "plenty of power for a 20 year old"??? Thats gotta be one of the dumbest things ive heard.

Wrap it into a pole, or let it sit in a garage for years and sink all your money into it just so you can be cool and never drive it, get a ******* EVO and try getting some ***** and call it a day. Or is that not of your interest?

If you feel you're ready for it, buy the car, don't worry about what other people think. Get it over with so we can close this thread.

Yeah, sure, you've "driven Supras and 300ZXs all the time", but have you owned one, and driven it daily? So that when the time comes where someone challenges you on the road, will you exercise good judgement? Or when you have a hottie in the passenger seat, and you'll want to impress her with your drift technique, will you be able to exercise good judgement? Or you're driving in the rain, and you just feel like the next Michael Schumacher, will you exercise good judgement? The reason they think you won't is because your ego is barking back at people trying to give you advice that you asked for.

i was 21 when i bought one and it has a singe turbo T61 with a Q trim with around400 at the wheels i dont have a problem controlling it. i have also been well over 150 in it and have drifted it before. i also started out with a 72 Nova that had a big block (454CI) that i drove every day never wrecked it. from there i went to a twin turbo audi S4 witha stage 3 which is a little over 420HP abd about the same amount of torque and i traded that for the FD. if you know how to drive confidently and smart you dont have to worry just buy the damn car and once you drive it you wont care how much it costs to keep it running. AMEN
AMEN for that Brother Kevin!
Just buy the godamn car! then you'll know it.
You don't want EVO and don't want to buy your so called 'other POS' cars, basically you want an FD. SO BUY ONE! and live with all its(if any) problems!
If you call yourself an FD enthusiast but dont want to live with the problem the car's making...I say you need to slap yourself to wake you up from your dream.
Just incase you're sick with the FD, you can just sell it again mate! I'm sure there are heaps of rotary enthusiast out there that would take care of the car.
what you hear from people(in this forum) about the FD 'myth' is not some sort of bible that 100% guarantee will get you to heaven.

what it is, in fact is the most comprehensive collection of feedback and info from a very large percentage of OWNERS, not enthuisiasts. It is a very broad look at how this car is, acts and performs. Why would you ignore people that are trying to prepare you for what is in store, because there is some conspiracy amongst the RX-7 community to keep people from buying these cars, I wish that was the case. This car is what it is, period. No matter how you try and butter it up. Now lets put this to rest and let the kid do what he wants. Newbies should known what is coming when they post such a redundant topic and info, he set himself up for the info given in this thread, do some more searching. I searched for six months on everything I wanted to know before I posted once, please newbs, follow suit.
well im not sure if i can say alot cause i just bought my 94 a month ago.
well im 20, ive been driving since i was 18 (knee injury lead to not being able to drive) and ive been on my ins the whole time, mommy never let me go on hers lol, so being a "new driver" still and owning this car and having a clean license goin through progressive (fully covered) costs me $488 a month, yea thats alot but i really love cars and its deff worth it. im not rich at all, my mom dosnt pay for anything (besides free rent), i couldnt even buy the car fully out, i sold my eclipse and put 6K down on the car, so i still have a car payment as well.
honestly people think its crazy to spend that much money for a car, between buying it for 15K and then ins. but its not just a car to me, its my only intrest.
well for only owning it a month, i had to get new brakes front and back and that was...$130 for the front and like $70-80 for the back, and then the oil change's are more due to synthetic oil. anyways even if stuff more money its deaf worth it, i really love this car its a blast to drive.
well thats my whole situation, youll know for sure if u want the car, i just went for it cause i dont wanna live my life regretting anything, worse comes to worse i think your able to get your money back by re selling it.
