This would explain the shaking...

... I was changing out my motor mounts today and started on the passenger side. I was surprised when it really wasn't in too poor of condition, aside from a small area of deterioration, since I thought it was the bad one. Then onto the drivers side and found this...

I installed polyurethane motor mounts from Rotorsports Racing. Pretty straight forward install, had to pry the drivers side over about half an inch to get both sides aligned before lowering the engine and tightening down. There is no more hard shake on start-up, and motor is solid during shifts and rapid deceleration. Resonant vibrations from 1200-1400 rpm, and it seems like I can "feel" the exhaust a bit more, if that makes sense. Anyway, if anyone is looking into poly mounts, Rotorsports Racing makes a good product. (Sorry about the huge picture.)

That is the condition of your typical stock driver side mount. We see it nearly every time we pull an engine out.

Even on an engine with no symptoms of shaking or driveline shift?

Like I said nearly every engine with a stock aluminum arm mount..... most people have no idea they are driving around on only one motor mount.

I'd have to agree. I never had lift clunking or extraordinary shake with that mount pictured above. And there was nothing visual when it was in the car. Despite that, when we were pulling the motor my friend warned me that it would fall apart...and he was right.

The balanced engine plays a part in the broken mount going undetected, but the steel band that wraps around the rubber mount and keeps the aluminum bracket from lifting completely off plays a larger role.
