So. After having been getting some miles done on this brand-new engine that I rebuilt. Today I noticed my main pulley had a noticeable wobble to it.
I tried looking at all the possible causes for this, but I couldn't find anything that really stood out to me.
I assumed that my main pulley was maybe slightly bent, causing everything to be slightly off, but after swapping to a Banzai underdrive main pulley I had sitting around and checking runout with a dial gauge, I noticed it would still have had a wobble if I had started it.
I assumed the worst, that maybe a thrust bearing dropped when putting the engine together. So I checked my end play, which was still dead on and perfect.
I took a photo and it's kind of hard to tell, but it looks like even the main hub is sitting slightly off (I could also just be going crazy at this point), but I can't really get my dial gauge down there and on a solid part of the engine to be able to really tell, but I'm just going to assume that that is where it is coming from. I don't know where to go from here.
I got around to checking that this morning. It doesn't look super bad but there is some sort of wobble still to it sadly. It's hard to see, but you can feel it if you put your finger on the smooth part of the trigger. Nothing like in that video (even though I think it looks worse because of the framerate of the camera)
Sadly it's most likely gonna be a front stack issue. Been there, done that, got that merit badge.
You CAN do it in the car but I do NOT recommend it. Considering you have to pull the oil pan and all the stuff around the front cover it's a LOT to try and do in the car. Also it's way better to be on an engine stand with the engine pointing nose up when you put the front stack together.
Can you maybe post a video of the front pulley while you crank the engine over?
Shmeedia ended up going with the e&j bearing thing. After he pulled it all apart, it was exactly what he thought it was. The e&j thing fixed the issue. He decided that instead of redoing the stack.

I'm currently working on taking the engine apart while keeping it in the car and was thinking about going with the E&J stationary bearing support so I can get away with leaving the engine in the car. But I haven't seen anything about it, so I was questioning if that's the way to go or not. Trying to see how much money is worth dropping the subframe compared to taking everything off to take the engine out.
Considering I can pull an FD motor and have it hanging on an engine hoist in 1 hour then 5 minutes later it's on a stand ready and easy to work on - it's not worth trying to fight it in the car. Especially trying to re-seal an oil pan in the car, that's a MISERABLE job.
