FL which wires on the headlight switch, to bypass/test the switch?

94 lhd 5 speed.

i looked at the manual, which shows 3 wires. r/b...r/g...b. my harness has 5 wires. not sure which 2 to jump to see if i can get tail lights...dash gauge lights, etc....showing me the switch is bad.

i did DMM the wires, but didn't get a clean 12 volt result. fuse is good. well, the ROOM fuse, 10 amp. am i way off?

along the same thought, can i jump the TNS relay wires to test the same theory?

tail lights and dash lights were all working. i took the gauge cluster out for some simple fixes, and don't have lights now. also, the add coolant light is on all the time, system is full. was fine before i removed the gauge cluster, and wiring on the sensor seems good at the plug and at the sensor...thanks in advance.

Make sure the dimmer for the dash isn't cranked all the way down. I've accidentally done that before when pulling the cluster.

yep, i tried the dimmer before i posted up. also quick up/down on it as well.

but, even if that was jacked, i should still get tail lights, right?

thanks for any input. i read a FC thread where you could jump the switch harness wires to get power.

Be careful trying to jump wires, that's an easy way to turn a minor problem into a major one.

It's something with the TNS circuit if you don't have running lights and dash lights. You'll need to dig through the wiring diagram and step through it.

yep. so i work on the dash, and go figure, now my TNS relay gets flaky. i jumped that, and got the basic lights back. so i'll troubleshoot that relay a little bit now, then go buy new.
hopefully, it's not $200 like every other piece i purchased for this car in the last week. i'll have to stop fixing 4 things at the same time, in case something goes flaky.

thank you dale.

i pulled this pic off a 1993 thread. his TNS relay wasn't where mine is (1994), so i crossed off his jump wires, and the green line are the only 2 pins i jumped to get dash lights, tail lights, parking lights, etc:

ok, so got in a relay that "has a 3rd interchange number of KA32-67-720"...so i plugged it in, dash lights, parking lights on all the time. noob question...the headlight switch turns on these lights, correct?

or maybe that's my issue. in my relay box, i have a ka32 for the cooling fans, and a ka32 for the tns, and they're right next to each other...what relay do i need?

***so it makes sense, i actually don't have any headlights or headlight motors in this car yet...just troubleshooting the parking/tail lights and dash lights for now.

I believe those relays are mostly the same, I think the only difference would be if one wouldn't physically plug in or if it's rated for a different amount of amps.

So dash lights and parking lights are normally turned on from the stalk on the steering wheel - turn the ****, dash/parking, another turn, headlights come on. Just like any other car.

thank you. i figured that was how it would be, but guessing can only lead to issues. only mazdas i've owned have been the miata.

so i get the headlight relay to click in the engine bay by the stalk. i think i just got a bad relay. the fun of eBay.

to close this out, the KA32 new relay was sent back to that eBay seller. i ordered a used eBay KA32 (pulled from a 95 rx7). that relay plugged in, and all parking lights / gauge lights / tail lights are back to functioning.

so that means my retra relay (another KA32) that i swapped for testing, is also bad. figures...

thanks to the forum. i appreciate the insights.
