Gauge cluster lights and tail lights out.

On my 89 TII my gauge cluster lights will just go out. This is an indicator for me that my tail lights are not working. I am not good with wiring and have no idea what to look for. I figure there is a short somewhere but I dont know where to look. There seems to be no cause i.e. when i hit a bump. It just happens from time to time and seems to be getting worse. If anyone has any help to offer, I am all ears.

The headlight switch is gone out OR more likely the electrical plug that attaches to the headlight switch has burnt wires in it that don't hardly work no 'mo. It's the GREEN/WHITE wire in that elect plug that will be burnt to death is that is the case.

Do a ADVANCED SEARCH for HEADLIGHT SWITCH and maybe use ICEMARK as a name to put in that search.

Most of us are just PLAIN tired of answering this particular problem. So not so tired of doing so. I fall in the first catagory. The SEARCH engine never tires.

If your tail lights are working properly but your dash lights aren't then you could try jumpering a short lengthed wire from the Red/Black wire to the Red/Green wire that is part of the headlight switch harness. So the switch plugs into a harness. This harness then must have a plug that connects to the switch. This harness plug has wires feeding out of the back of it while the other side plugs into the headlight switch. Focus on the part of the harness plug where the wires feed out of the back and locate the two wires mentioned. Jumper these two wires and your dash lights ought to work when you turn them on but this is predicated on your tail lights working.

Agreed w/ HAILERS. Check your headlight switch, and the harness that runs through the dash as well. Your most likely going to find burn marks on either or both I can almost promise you.
