Window -What kind of power?

The driver side window isn't working. I checked the switch and it doesn't appear to be getting any power coming to the switch. Haven't found a break yet, though I suspect the area going into the door through the accordion like tube.

Question is, what type of power should I run to the switch to test it and the motor?
I'm guessing just a switched 12v and any ground -- but then I remember some things require a constant 12v line.

Just checking before I start hooking things up.

thanks

Is it that simple? Switched positive plus chasis ground?

first of all check the fuse...

use a test light to check for power and ground at the switch.....if you have power and ground at the switch then ypu have a bad window motor..

if u still have doubt pull the motor out and apply power and grond to it and see if it spins if it does then ur switch is bad....

does the passenger window work with the master switch?

does the passenger window work with the passenger switch?

make sure the window lock is not on....

Thanks.

Window does not work with Driver's switch. Fuse is ok
Window lock is not on.

Still seems like no power going to the switch.

see if you can borrow a switch from one of your friends fd.....if the window works wih a diff switch then u have a bad window swith...

if it still dont work check the power wire and signal wires for high resistance... or your motor is dead.

here this diagram should help.

there's always the chance of carbon buildup on the switch's metal contact.

here's dale's writeup on cleaning the passenger side. driverside isn't all that different

Thanks!

-Neither switch will move the passenger window
-There does NOT appear to be any power at the passenger side switch
-I'm thinking that the link from the drivers' side switch isn't able to get through either due to the no power reading on the passenger door pieces.

So, if I wire 12v dirrect to the window motor or the switch, I should see if the motor works or not.

I'm guessing that it's a simple switched 12v line and a good ground. But I was wondering if the constant 12v line needs to be involved in any way?

Thanks

check fuse 30a for the power window if that fuse is bad then both switches wont work..... and yes you can apply 12v and a ground to the motor to see if it works...

Do the power mirrors work? Do any of the controls on the driver side work? If not... Theres a big white oval shaped connector in the body of the car right below the hinge of the door. One part of the connector is actually in a cavity in the body and the other inside the car if i remember correctly. Make sure the connector is actually connected. I think the big white wire with the blue stripe is the power wire. It suppose to have constant power once the car is turned to ON.

It could just be a bad passenger window switch..on one of my 3rd gen the passenger window switch got messed up and you cannot roll it down from the master switch at all either....but when I took the passenger window switch into pieces and started messing around with the contacts it starting going up and down.
