VA Why is my Oil Pressure Gauge Needle So High

Guys, a few days ago I have started to notice that on my oil temperature gauge, the needle may be at a bit higher than usual.

When I am driving, for example, roughly about 55 miles an hour. I am noticing the needle at just above 60.

I have not had a chance to check the oil but could this be that I am low on oil?

In the picture attached you are seeing the needle when the car was in park with the motor running. This photo was taken about a month ago.

The car is running fine. Again, does this indicate that I may be running low on oil?

Thank You and sorry if this seems like a dumb question as I know there are some very intelligent people on this board who know the RX-7 inside out.

Best Regards.
Nadeem

Stock oil pressure gauge is known to be inaccurate, as well as the coolant temp gauge. You should have known this by now.

Also, if its at 60, and your RPM's are like around 3k, thats normal.

IN the picture you provided, is normal if your car is at idle.

It also depends on the weight of oil.

If your oil pressure changes because of your lack of oil, you have a BIG problem.

Oil pressure rises as RPM goes up. The stock oil pressure gauge is more to see if there is oil pressure as opposed to how much oil pressure due to how inaccurate it is, especially after 16 years . I wouldn't worry about it, I think its fine based off what you have described.

In the time you took to start this thread you could have checked your oil.

It's possible it's abnormally high because of a leak in the oiling system.

Why would oil pressure go up with a leak in the system? I remember when a banjo fitting cracked, it was quite the opposite ^_^. My oil pressure needle was bouncing ridiculously at WOT and normal otherwise. It was a micro fracture leak so would only leak when pressurized.

I assumed any logical person would check their oil level if they suspect oil problems

I've noticed both on my FD and on customer's FDs when there is a minor oil leak it can lead to the gauge reading high, perhaps because it's reading pressure near the leak (think oil filter pedestal leak with stock oil px sender) and the oil is speeding up to leave the system via the breech.....

That's my theory anyway
