Whooshing from airbox

Hi, novice here,

Thought I had whooshing from my intake elbow bit, turns out it's coming from the little stubby pipe coming off the right hand side of the stock airbox, at about 2k rpm, no higher no lower .It's pretty loud. I assume this is a breather but should it be making this noise as it really doubt it.

Thanks

I think you might be referring to the vent port. That should have a long hose going straight down from the port and dead-ended under the box with...IIRC a little filter. It vented pressure from the stock BOV. That’s probably the whooshing sound you’re hearing.

The stock air bypass valve recirculates back to the air box in stock form. With the windows open you might still hear a muted woosh sound. Back in the 90s they didn't care as much about keeping it quiet.

Thanks guys, sorry I didn't check diagrams first. I will be here a lot asking questions as and when my OCD kicks in lol. I'm going through the whole car front to back with a fine tooth comb since buying it in June.

Whilst I'm here... I have one throttle cable, and two levers that it can be clipped into. Is there not meant to be two cables or something?

The second is for your cruise control. If it was removed, that is why it is not hooked up.

Don't worry, the early performance versions of the FD like your JDM Type R and USDM R1 didn't come with cruise control from the factory.

FWIW you can add cruise fairly easily. All connectors for it are in your car. You just need the components...Power switch on dash, control switch on steering wheel, control module behind kick panel and the actuator under the hood which has the missing cable. It’s plug n play. It depends on how/where you drive the car. In some circumstances it can avoid those awkward conversations with the traffic enforcement folks.

Thays something to think about, I've never had cruise control! Such luxuries....

Its pretty fun in a turbo car, had it in my TII.

Turbo spools up on its own when you encounter hills and it is able to keep really constant speed. The impression from driver's seat is its not even adding throttle, just spooling the turbo.
